what is the best way to store troy-built engine for the winter. leave gas in it with treatment or run it till it runs out of gas.

I wasn't aware of any engine built by Troy Bilt in the old days.....Most were Briggs, Tecumseh, or Kohler..............For me, not only in the winter but ANYTIME that it is gonna sit more than a very few days, I run the fuel out of it.

This is due to what ethanol does to engine parts, fuel lines, and pretty much anything of older type rubber and plastic.............Old engines that do NOT have an original petcock, now have one as close to the tank as I can get them. Engines that do not allow this get turned over and the fuel tank drained............

Stabil works as a short term treatment. In fact, when I get a can of fuel the first thing that happens when I get home is a treatment of Stabil.........

God bless........Dennis

I always mix Sea Foam & Marvel Mystery Oil in my small engine fuels, storage has never been a problem for me! Engines that have set all winter start right up.

Used to use Sta-Bil until I found out that it has a shelf life, Sea Foam doesn't. ~~ grnspot

This is interesting. Could you give me the link to substantiate the research you indicate?

Again, without question, and having used the Seafoam route to clean out engine carbon and with mixed results the use of it in small engines to remove scrunge, the safest method is to drain the fuel...............

Will be interesting to see references to where you found out about the shelf live of Stabil vs Seafoam.................

God bless........Dennis

I got along fine with Sta-Bil when I used it, but (at least at that time) there was an expiration date printed on the label. ~~ grnspot
