Winged Migration on MPLEX (Dishnetwork)

I imagine a lot of you have seen this, I have seen it twice now. It is one of the most, if not the best, filming I have ever seen, Just amazing footage and scenery.

For the person that works 40-70 hrs a week, or otherwise is so busy with life and the technical world we live in, it is (to me) almost therapeutic. The way the birds are filmed shows how amazing the simple things are in nature that work almost flawlessly compared to the world we occupy. Since I love the outdoors, maybe I am slightly more impacted by it, don't know.

I think kids could benefit from it, may be a couple hunting scenes some may find offensive, but it sure illustrates that with all the "gadgets" we have, some mind boggling things happen in nature and did I mention the scenery,WOW.

Short description here that doesn't really do justice, I will buy the CD.

Many years ago while I was in Stuttgart, Arkansas, I witnessed flocks of geese and ducks that filled the skies for hours. The V-shaped patterns of the geese were as precise as any aerial fighter squadron's display. Truly was a joy to watch Nature in action. Although I had hunted waterfowl for many years on the Holston River in East Tennessee, I had never, ever witnessed the multitude of ducks and geese that were in the skies over Stuttgart. I have seen pelicans dive bomb to catch fish in Florida. I have seen osprey gracefully flying while searching the water and the precise skill that they exercise to catch fish using their talons. Truly spectacular to watch Nature in action, and a blessing to be able to have "front row seats".:)

When I was a kid I lived in LA and KY. I can remember watching bird migrations in LA that just went on, and on, and on. Truly amazing. In KY, it was the huge flock of pesky starlings that would show up from time to time that amazed me. :) Gazzillions of them. Fun to watch unless they were on your property. :D

Now, I am lucky in that I live near a major lake that has a huge concentration of Bald Eagles and Ospery's. They have nests all over the place if you look. I watched one nest all summer as the parents fed the babies. I frequently see both species catching fish and I have seen Eagles fighting over a fish that one had caught.

There are a few causeways over the lake, if the wind is from the right direction and strong enough, the birds will hang right over the causeway. The wind hits the causeway and blows up which the birds will sit and ride. Pretty dang amazing. I really want to get photos of them but never have the chance.

We share our land with a breeding pair of Hawks. Seeing and hearing them is pretty cool. There is also a big owl in the woods as well as a breading pair of big Red Headed Wood Peckers.

I like them all.....

Now that pesky, gray bird that keeps pecking our windows needs to LEAVE! NOW!

Later,
Dan
