Will Craftsman deck fit on a 100 Series John Deere?

I have a John Deere L108 with a 42" Cut Deck and 18.5 Briggs Stratton engine with the heel/toe shifter. The deck and front end are in bad shape on the mower.

I was told by a service tech that the 100 series are made by MTD and are basically the same as Craftsman mowers.

Anyone know if a deck from a Craftsman mower will interchange with this mower?

Your tech is wrong, John Deere makes all of their own machines, one of the few that do. The L LA D series machines are made in Greeneville TN. With enough tinkering it might fit.

So, no other deck will fit with this mower?

sure others will. but you would have to have intermediate fabrication skills and know how to weld somewhat.

Well, I am in luck in this situation. I can weld and have access to a welder and plenty of steel for making parts out of.

Now, to find a suitable replacement.

I checked the John Deere parts site and the deck from a L108 does not list any other model where it is used. I would think the L100 or L118 should be the same, or at least closer to making it fit.
Post some pics of your progress sounds like a good project.
