Will a Bobcat 773 dig stumps reasonably well. It does come with over the tire tracks and tooth bucket. I know it will not compete with a backhoe, but I am torn between a used 773 or a new CUT with a backhoe. Wife likes the idea of new tractor with loader and backhoe compared to buying a used machine and not knowing the history. I think I like the idea of playing with the Skid Steer. After the stumps are removed it will be used mainly for changing the dirt bike trail.

It also has more buckets, forks and post hole digger where I would have to buy attachments for the new tractor.

Thanks,

Buy you the Bobcat and buy her the tractor. Its a win win. A Bobcat will take out stumps but a backhoe is much easier and cleaner. Good luck:laughing:

That is what I did with the motorcycles, now I have two motorcycles. I think she may catch on to my tricks if I try to pull that one again.

How big of stumps are we talking about? I know there is no comparison to a skid loader and a CUT as far as power but I don't see how you can remove a stump of much size with a FEL. I tried with my Bobcat CT230 and I got nowhere. Of course this was no small stump either. Once I got my Woods BH80-X I was able to dig it out though. The stump was about 3' in dia at the base.

Personally, I would go with a CUT. A box blade would work out well for your dirt bike trail. I bought my BC with the universal skid steer attachment on the front so I could switch between a bucket or forks quickly. The Woods BH is realatively easy to take on and off and digs very well for its size. It seems really well made also. I have not found anything that I could not dig out with it yet. Of course after I get it out it is sometimes more than my FEL will handle!

I was thinking around 30HP CUT with a backhoe may be more in line with what we need. The idea of having a Skid Steer was appealing, and cheaper up front. Most likely cost more to maintain. Looked at Kubota, going to Kioti to see what they have.

Thanks for your comments.

Both are good choices, look at the Bobcat too. I know right now they are offering 0% for 72m or $3k off or a free snow blower depending on what option appeals more to you.

I have the 30hp Bobcat CT230 and I am very happy with it. I looked at JD, Kubota, Case, Massey & Kioti when I was looking at mine. Make sure you get some time to sit on them and drive them around before you choose, compare the standard options. In the end, I went with BC because of the deals they had at the time and the options they had as standard vs the other bands. To be honest though, mainly it was because of the price.

This forum also has a good "review" section. I am sure you will find lots of valuable inof out there! Good luck!
