One thing to watch out for with windows (the ones you see through, not the silly software :confused2:):

Low E glass is a thin metal film on the window. It eats RF. In our old house, when we changed out the windows and put in low E glass, we lost all cell phone reception. So if you're trying to get around the foil-faced insulation by putting a router/box near a window it might be no better if the window is low E.

Like czechsonofagun, when I ran power conduit to my building I also ran a low voltage conduit. The lessons from a boatload of threads here is clear. Never run _just_ a power conduit to an outbuilding. You'll want phone, security, and internet so while you've got the trench open put in a 1.5" conduit for low voltage stuff. BTW, I'd also toss in a pipe for water.

Wow, its gonna be complicated. Our windows (in the house) are low-E so thats a problem. The building / living quarters was built first. The building and the house are on separate meters so not sure the ethernet over power lines would work. Looks like it is going to require some kind of antenna on one end - maybe both.

I will of course do a site survey first - that is taking the laptop outside and seeing if I get anything at all.

I would think this could still work, if it is on the same transformer, in other words the carrier current rf on the AC will not go thru the inductance of a large transformer, but if both services are on the same secondary side of the service transformer (pole-pig) I believe it could still work

I have no problem with reaching the router in the house from My shop 300 ft away, But I have got another thing I want to do? while on the subject if not to confuse the OP.... ..ya see! I tinker around a bit with broken computers and when I finally get the Frankensteins back to life the only way I have to check for on line connections is to download the wireless card driver that I use in My main PC, and connect them that way so's to go on line to get the other Hardware drivers, Now! for what I want to do, iS get the signal from the house to another wireless router that has LAN connection so that I can hardwire the connections to the computers I'm servicing, so I don't have to keep downloading the wireless drivers to all the computers,
I have attempt this before unsuccessfully, I cannot get the 2 routers to connect :confused2: anyone ever done this before?
