Kubota BX-24D Cub Cadet LT42e
Kubota's B21 has a PTO HP of 13.5 while the BX-24 has a PTO HP of 17.7. Yet Kubota lists a trencher for the B21, but not for the BX. Anybody know why that is? Lift height is lower on the BX's, of course. Is that it? Maybe the trenchers are too heavy for the BX to lift?

I would believe that it is the weight of the tractor, not the physical size that is the determining factor. A trencher can toss a small light weigh tractor around and the last thing that Kubota wants is to have a BX damaged by the use of a implement that has the amount of force that a trencher does. With the small bucket on the BX, it will take a little longer, but you can still dig a long trench. Just depends on what you want to be putting in the trench. I wouldn't use a BX for putting in a lawn sprinkler system if I could rent a trencher. The right tool for the job is always the fastest and least expensive in the end. Dusty

Does the B21 weigh significantly more than the BX? Could be a factor as well as the ones you mention.

Looks like the B21 is about 3800 lbs with loader and backhoe while the BX's are around 3000 with loader and backhoe.

I was gonna *guess* that BX market is mostly homesteaders (as opposed to contractors) and they come with a backhoe, so maybe not much market for a trencher.

Anyone have a good or bad experience using a PTO trencher with a BX?

The BX2250 is a few pounds heavier than the B7410, weighs 1 pound less than the B7510 and has more HP than either... The B7610 is only a few pounds heavier and 1 more HP than the BX2250. The bare BX 24 weighs even a little more because of the weight of the subframes. Lift height is very comparable on the late BXs. Doesn't make much sense that it's not listed. I wouldn't hesitate to try it.

I have a Bradco trencher but mine is a (615 )I think have to look to be sure when I ran it on my B21 it was about all the machine would do both from power and weight stand point if you would find a rock or roots it would throw the tractor around BAD I believe anything lighter that that you would just destroy it. I now run it on a L48 and it made a world of difference.

I don't think that the Kubota website warrants much attention when it comes to what attachment will work with what tractor.

The trencher is shown as applicable only on the B2410, B2710, B2910, and B21, skipping the B26 and the more powerful members of the "B" lineup.

The website also indicates that the BH75 backhoe is not appropriate for the B7800 yet that's the backhoe installed on mine.

Over the time I've studied their spec. pages I've noticed several oddities and a few flat out errors.

That said, a trencher CAN be a pretty violent tool, so maybe with that in mind Kubota recommends one only for their tractors which have the "Integral Main Frame", which translates to the TLB's.

I think Kubota will always chose to err on the side of safety in a question. They seem very sensitive to the possibility of product liability litigation, as they should be today.
