Why do my pictures show sideways on TBN?

I have some nice pics I would like to post but since I originally held the camera sideways, they will post sideways. No, I can't fix it and no, I don't understand it. Regular pics are no problem. Hold the camera sideways and problem.

Whose fault and how do I fix?

It's just the way some photos are. Easiest fix is to open them in Paint or whatever you have on your computer. Rotate the image some other direction, save it, rotate back upright, save it again. Then when you upload to TBN it will display properly.

Yeah, it's a fairly common issue if you take photos in portrait orientation with iPhones. Cameras actually only take landscape photos, so what the iPhone does is embed some metadata into the image that says "rotate this one to portrait when viewed". Sometimes the metadata gets stripped when you upload to a forum.

I took it with my camera. Don't have an iPhone.

I did what Sysop said and rotated the pics, saved it and then went back and reversed back. Then they posted right. Beats me.

Not many cameras floating around still. I haven't seen one in a few years prob lol

1. Download and install XnView.
2. Open your photos with XnView.
3. Rotate as needed. (See the circular arrow buttons on the toolbar.)
4. Select, Image, Resize.
5. Choose a width of about 800 pixels, maybe 1000 max.
6. Select File, then Save As, and give it a new name.
7. Now upload a reasonably sized file that is oriented correctly.

Picture uploading is terrible on TBN and needs to be upgraded to automatically resize pictures.

I recently clicked a thumbnail picture in a post, it took 3.2 minutes to upload and the size was 5312x2988 pixels.

Too big to see it all at once on my 18" screen. :thumbdown:

Agreed and it is annoying. Same with multiple pic postings. I have to post them one at a time and I'm not sure if it's my problem or theirs. On a similar site I can post multiples so probably not me.

I always size mine down on my computer before loading them here. I usually aim for around 768x1024. Then, I use the advanced editor to make them full-size in the post to avoid having to open thumbnails.

I never use my phone to upload pictures, though.
