Which tires, not whuch tires... Sheesh!
D

OK,

I'm going to buy a tractor in the next week or so (see my other threads).

My current question is tires. Turf tires are not appropriate for my use, that was easy.

That said I keep flip flopping on AG vs. Industrial tires.

I have hills that are either gravel or dirt with stumps/timber slash/rocks.

But my steepest hilly spots are fairly short ~30-40' on the drive, and only 20-25' out in the draws in the forested areas.

I have trails that are really just the logging trail used to thin my timber stand.

On an occasion I might bush hog the back yard near the pond, and I will drive across the back yard to access the hardwood forest near the creek branch feeding my pond.

I hear the Industrial (R4?) tires last longer and will take the wear/tear of rocks stumps tiumber scraps better, but that the AG Tires will have the BEST traction in snow/mud.

I will get liguid filled tires regardless.

So, please educate me on tires so I can make the right choice.

At this stage of the game, I do NOT plan to keep extra wheels/tires.

Thanks in advance to all posters!
David

Just went thru this myself. Most will tell you if you're going to be doing mostly ground engagement work, get the Ag tires. If you're mostly going to be doing brush cutting or loader work, get the R4's.

In my case, I ordered a L5740 with R4's. It was delivered with Ag. Tires. I liked the Ag. Tires, but mostly use the tractor brush cutting and doing loader work. The loader work is mostly done with a grapple, cleaning fence rows. I had the dealer go ahead and put on the R4's because they have a maximum load rating of 3500 pounds. The maximum load rating on the Ag tires was only 1390 pounds. That's a big difference.

for the type of work your going to use your tractor for R4s fitt the bill.rocks an rough ground will ruin R1s fast.my tractor has R4s an weve used it alot for shredding an working in the woods building a fence.so they fitt my needs.

We have tractors with both and more. For our SCT/CUT we have Industrial and our M8540 Ag. For what you describe you will have to compromise one way or the other, but I would go Industrial.

I am CONVINCED! I'm getting R-4 tires!

This was VERY helpful. Thank you.

Just to pitch in, I envy my neighbor's ag tires, and he envies my industrial. The truth be told, the industrial work great, and are better for chains in the winter since the links don't fall between the treads like they do with ag tires.

Good luck!

R'4's are tougher and better wearing. R4's also ride harsher than R1's. R4's are a very firm and solid tire. R1's by far better in mud and soft ground. R4's are better for snow chains. I have R4's.

I would go with the Ag tires, perfect for you. My first Kubota (80s L2250) had Ags. I used to cut grass with it (carefully). I have turfs now but they suit my property.

Thanks for the good idea.
