I am having a problem with sediment getting into my water heating tank, toilet tanks, water softener, etc. I had a filter on the line, but it would clog every couple of days, so I just abandoned that idea. I am looking at some larger commercial units and was wondering if anyone here has any experience with them. Thanks.......

I have one on a house in MS that I bought in an effort to remove some of the iron (red) color from the water. About that time the water system installed some new equipment, so I don't know which was effective. It's due a filter replacement now and I've not had any problem with it. When I bought it, there were different filters available for different problems.

Check out the Ohio Pure Water Company. They have several different types of filters, including a couple that would work for you.

Their web page hasa lot of information to point you in the right direction and if you call them, they can answer any questions you have.

Their shipping is FAST! I ordered a water softener from them at 6 am one morning and the UPS truck showed up at 2 pm the next afternoon!

We have a 10" cannister type on our icky iron laden water line. I have to change or clean it every 3-4 weeks. Then we have a softener, and finally a RO at drinking water.

I was looking at whole house filters for a while and noticed they recommended you install multiple stages of filteration. That way the less expensive coarse filters clog first and the more expensive activated carbon ones last longer. I ran a two stage system on our old house and stopped putting a filter in the first canister after the first year cause I didn't need it. I would think they would have an even coarser pre-filter to get the really big stuff if that is a problem for you.

Can't tell you yet, since I just installed them - I put in a three stage Big Blue system the cartridges are 4.5 inches by 20 inches, I opted for the 1 inch piping. The first stage is 20 micron, second is 5 micron - both sediment type, the third is 5 micron carbon block taste, odor, chlorine (expensive - $45 bucks). The whole setup was well under $300 including tax, shipping, pvc fittings, Tapcon drill bit, screws, etc. The water doesn't seem to smell any more, probably have to wait a week to see if the toilet bowls stay clean. I got them at Northeast Supply, I don't know if they are in your neck of the woods.

But, if you are getting sand, then you probably should put a sand separator in front of the triple filter.

For those that are geographically challenged, please tell me what larger city is near "South of the C & D, on the banks of the Bohemia river " /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif The only Bohemians that I knew were later called beatnicks in the 1960, and hippies in the 1970's. Now days, they call them /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Yuppies /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif......

Larger cities? Our ZIP says Earleville, but that's about 5 miles away, Cecilton is about 7, downtown Galena is another couple of miles. Up north, Cheasapeake City - both North and South - there's a gas station there that has 24 hour credit card pumps. The big city - about a half hour drive - is Elkton - years ago it was famous because people from Pennsylvania came down for 1 day marriage service. Funny thing, people used to come down for fireworks too!

There's a historic farm - Bohemia Manor - nearby, the guy originally came from, of all places, Bohemia! I don't know which rearrangement of Europe made Bohemia history.

Marriage and fireworks? Sometimes the two go hand in hand! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
