I mentioned to a friend that I was considering buying another compact tractor. It is my impression Yanmar was John Deere's supplier until 2-3 years ago. Now that Yanmar is liked with Cub Cadet/MTD, what company supplies the compact tractors for J.D. ?

I think John Deere makes them themselves. Deere also makes their own engine for its soon coming 10 series with a Deere designed Yanmar engine made by Deere. Deere still has yanmar's in some of their tractors, but this will end as soon as they introduce the 20xxm, 30xxm, and 40xxm series.

Yanmar has supplied the engines for JD CUT's and the larger Lawn & Garden stuff for some time, but to my knowledge not the whole tractor as your post seems to indicate.

Seems to be a lot opinions and conjecture about what engines will be used now since the Yanmar/Cub Cadet deal. I don't think anything is for sure yet.

I was under impression that the 3005 and 4005 are still made by yanmar?

Looking at the newest 3x20s at the dealer, I see Yanmar engines,
Dana/Spicer front axles, Hema (Turkey) hydraulics, and I suspect the
HSTs still come from Eaton. These have been the source for the
predecessors, too. I do not know who makes the gearboxes, castings,
and electronics. Final assembly in the US for the ones here, as far
as I know.

I expect you'll see Yanmar engines in Joh Deere CUTs for quite a while.
The Yanmar/Cub Cadet partnership isn't doing all that well (sales-wise)and Yanmar does do quite well for Deere.
It's possible Deere may chop off one cylinder off the engines used for the 4xxx series machines (or reduce the displacement)...but I wouldn't put any money on it...
Just my 2 cents

The reason of the Yanmar engines still being used is deere is trying to get the engines that were originally made in india and china for these tractors to pass our emisions.
