Im need to buy a new lawn tractor and have been considering a new BX Kubota. I got to use a X728 John Deere this weekend and after seeing that Tuff Torq makes the transmission (K92)for John Deere I decided to pass. Ive had bad luck with Tuff Torq products. So Who makes the Kubota BX hydrostatic transmission.

I'm assuming Kubota?
They make their own engines, so I'm guessing they make their own gearboxes, too. Never really thought about it - good question.

My wife and I really like the Z728 alot. But when we saw who made the transmission we both said NO. We looked at the BX and really like it as well but the question we both have is who makes the transmission?

Not sure who does the final assembly but the HST pump & motor look like Hydro-gear / Eaton components. Could also be Japanese copies of this design.

Companies like TMA (Transaxle manufacturers of America) make these axle assemblies for multiple brands.

...and TMA is a joint venture between Kanzaki (TuffTorq) and John Deere with Yanmar as a minority partner...

To the OP - there are absolutley ZERO issues with the transmissions on the X700 Series but if you are looking at the Kub BX, why not also look at the Deere 1 Series?

Ive had bad luck with Tuff Torq products, so I would like to stay away from them. The X728 was a used unit that had 3XX hours and had a whine in the rear end. It was the same noise that all my problemed Tuff Torq products had. It was on the dealers lot. Price was real nice.We really liked the Z728, other than the noise.

Kubota makes all the major components of their tractors - engines and transmissions as well as the major implements, e.g., front loader, mowers and backhoes. Now do they order pumps and other components from a third party supplier, I'm sure they do. Not sure, but in that size class, they may be the only mfg that makes the entire tractor.

Daikin out of Japan makes the hydrostatic pump in my B2400. They are sold here in the US through Sauer-Danfoss rebadged as something else. Hydro Gear supplies parts for them and are sold through Hydro Gear dealers. Not all parts available though because some are Kubota specific.

There is a huge difference in the Tuff Torq k46 and the k92 transmissions, I own both. The x749 with the k 92 has performed well for me with some heavy use. That said if you feel more comfortable with a Kubota BX then go for it, most people who have these BX models seem to really like them and I haven't heard many complaints. My sister and brother in law have a BX23 I think it is and after playing around with my x749 they want to get one of these. They liked the pedals and single range transmission much better.

My recommendation would be to not worry about the transmission make between the Kubota and the Deere, both are very good. Buy the one that you feel is the best fit for you and your boss.

1*Those are lawn mower transmission.
2*You don't need to concern your self about that as a BX is a real tracor not a lawn mower.
3*The BX is a real tractor not a lawn tractor.
4*Kubota i think.
5*Then get a Kubota.
6*The whine is normal for a hydro.
7*Normal as i just stated.
8*But it's just a mower not a tractor.
