John Deere's not Exxon-Mobil... right? So, they don't manufacture their own synthetic oil; right?

They now sell JD branded synthetic 5W-40 oil for diesel engines across the local dealership counter now.

Who makes it and is it any good?

Appreciate any info.

5w40? I've only seen 0w40 available in JD syn.....from what I gather on various forums....the 0w40 at least is really good stuff. After the last Walmart/Mobil1 price hike, its now cheaper to run the JD Stuff... I KNOW I'll be using it in my 3520, and I'm thinking about buying a 5 gal pail of it and running it in everything (car/truck/both tractors)

I have no idea who makes the JD 0w40 oil. But I bought 5 gallons at the end of last year and it will go in the truck and tractor soon. Decided to hold on using the JD oil to finish off some Shell 5w40 oil and to get through the summer.

I will do oil analysis on the oil but the first report what be back until well into next year. :D When I get the report I'll mention it on TBN.

I would be shocked if JD's oil is "bad". The price sure got better compared to Shell which is why I decided to try the JD oil.

My expectation is that I might get a bit better mileage and easier starts in the cold.

I think I read on bobistheoilguy.com (which i highly recommend to join and be overwhelmed by all things oil there) that it is made in Canada for JD.. As mentioned it got good reviews on the same site based on UOA..

Check the J-D MSDS site http://eservice.msds.com/servlet/SSMain - according to that, the 0w-40 is made by Esso Canada. I've got a couple hundred hours on it in some J-D/Yanmar equipment, and it seems to be pretty good stuff.

Here's a VOA: John Deere Supreme "Plus 50" 0W-40 - Bob Is The Oil Guy and a UOA : J-D 0W-40 Semi-Syn. (24 HP Yanmar Diesel) - Bob Is The Oil Guy

The Zinc/Phosphorous numbers are really up there, so I'd be careful if using it in anything post-'07 with catalytic converters. Other than that, it should be a great fit for a pile of applications. I stock up on it every time the J-D guy has a sale.

I didn't look all that closely at the container the last time I was at the dealership -- that's the stuff - 0W-40. (Been using Mobil 1 and that's 5W-40).

Didn't think it was "bad"; just wondering how it compares to the other synthetic oils out there; Mobil 1, Amsoil, Royal Purple.

Thanks for the link to "Bob is the oil guy". Should provide for some good info.

I like Amsoil 0 -40 w for the small 4 cycle gas engines, Mobile 1 for gas highway vehicles, and now John Deere Plus-50 Synthetic 0 - 40w for the off road diesels.

My last M1 0w30 ESP from Advanced Auto was $38 for 5 quart containers. Got enough to do the 50 hour change on the B2601 and the 10 year change on the Isuzu generator.
