Hi all,

Odd one I know but am looking for a cheap CAT1 quick hitch. It is not going to be used to actually run equipment behind a tractor but is for a project I am going to build.
I am keeping an eye out for used ones and also searching for low cost new ones.
Thanks for any thoughts on this.

So far it seems Harbor Freight is the cheapest at $139.

I special ordered a Speeco eHitch Cat 1 (no bushings required) . Total price was $178. Local Pickup was 4-months later.
Since online retailers were all charging $300-$400 plus freight, it payed to think ahead and be patient.
Check wth your closest store, they can get you an updated price. This was 1st quality USA made for HF/China pricing.
I couldn't be happier! I never have to use those Cat 2 to Cat 1 bushings on any of the attachments.
That said, there is NO standard. So when it claims "Quick-Hitch Compatible", be sure to ask "WHICH" brand of quick hitch and with how much effort.

To fully explain it:

The Speeco Cat 1 is TRUE Cat 1... the hooks are sized only for small CAT1 pins. They will NOT take a Cat 2 pin. This is usually not an issue on subcompact tractor implements and may not be an issue on the vast majority of implements up to Compact tractor size but some few implements do use the Cat 2 size pins.

The Harbor Freight Cat 1 quick hitch has been the more common way of doing it for whatever reason. It's a Cat 1 Quick hitch but the hooks are Cat 2 size and you can either put the cat2 to cat1 bushings on, make your own cheap bushing out of some pipe, or just hang the cat1 pins in it without a bushing and it'll rattle around a little but still work ok.

Get one of Harbor Freight's frequent coupon codes and it'll be even cheaper if your "project" will work with that.

Yes, my John Deere quick Hitch is also that way. I think they use the same hooks for CAT 1&2 quick hitches.

No, the Speeco may be convenient but if it has Cat I lower pin sizes, it's not standard. If you check the American Society of Agriculture Engineers standard for quick hitches, you will find that the Cat I standard takes Cat II pins. I'm not sure why but perhaps to accommodate the implements with reversible Cat I/II pins.

Now you got my attention! If you're not going to use it behind a tractor, what project are you building?!
