I am looking at a 4wd white 2-55 tractor with all-hydraulic loader. It seems like it is in pretty good shape mechanically. The tires need replacing, the paint is bad and the bucket on the loader is pretty rough. Anyone have an idea of what these tractors are selling for. The lady is asking $8000. I figured on at least $1000 for the tires, bucket and paint job.

Any help would be appreciated.

Matt How many hours on the tractor?. Also, what kind of shape is the front axle in, is there any play in the spindles or any fluid leaking from them. If the hours are low, it runs good and everything is tight on it $8000.00 isn't too far off. Your figure though, of a thousand for tires, bucket and paint is pretty low I think. Also, some of the White 2-XX series were made by Fiat not Iseki but I don't know if thats the case with the 2-55. You might want to look further into that if its a concern for you. Gerry

I have an Iseki T6000, which is the same as the White 2-55.

Rear axle has some suspicious noises - so watch out for wear in the rear axle area (take it for a drive, run through some gears, apply the diff lock).

The front axle on mine has seen a serious accident (cracked cast iron, repaired with brazing at some stage) - I don't know if the front axle is weak, or whether someone just asked too much of it.

Quite old, but runs OK. In Australia I paid $16,000 for it (no front bucket) - which is not an unusual price for an older 4wd tractor here.

Pictures can be found at http://www.guru.com.au/farm/tools/images/tractor.jpg (plus http://www.guru.com.au/farm/photos/June-04/ - where I was swapping the wheels around to widen them).

Of course, read ISEKI T6000/WHITE 2-55

I would love to have a FEL, I think the extra steel would help strengthen the front end cast-iron engine mount/frame, which also is cracked in mine (probably from the same accident that hurt the front axle).

Thanks a lot gentlemen. The tractor has about 4000 hours if you believe the hr meter. I ran everything through the paces last week and didn't notice any odd noises or oil leaks. I applied the diff. lock and the light went on, but I couldn't tell for certain whether or not it did lock. The front end looks ok except for one broken stabilizer.

I plan on calling tonight to see if the tractor is still for sale. Thanks again for the help.

I finally broke down and bought the white 2-55 on Thursday. Today I went through and changed engine oil, transmission, front gear case and rear axle oils. Plan on replacing fuel filters tomorrow.

A few things I found as I went through it. The rear brakes seem to be dragging. Any thoughts if they are overtightened or siezing somewhere? Has anyone else had problems or gone through them?
The seal for the brake mechanism going into the rear axle area is leaking on the left side, so I will have to replace that.

Finally, I will be doing a wiring job, as a lot of the wires are disconnected and the only thing that works are the dash controls and one headlamp on pos. 4.

I'll keep you all updated, and thank you John and Gerry for your help.

PS The quick tach loader is very nice to be able to remove when changing fluids.
