While I\'m at it ...

Your opinions ....

I have 6.5 acres, about 2.5 which are finish mowable and 2.5 more are grass paddocks. I have a JD LX288 (18hp) which handles the mowing (with some tough slopes) and some light duty hauling wonderfully. Another 3 acres of very low brush/timothy that I wanna bushhog from time to time, though its not my property. A 5' hog should be plenty of attachment for this low, level field.

I have 2 horses and they generate a lotta compost! These piles must be moved into the lowlands. I also have an 1100 foot driveway, gravel, in need of maintenance and snow removal (too narrow to plow, must be blown or bucketed).

Finally, lottsa dead trees and big rocks to be moved if I want to move them.

I'm convinced a B2710 or a B2910 will do the trick. Anyone think I'm going to small? If so, why?

Oh .. if interested in some free compost (pure, real pure grade A manure ... can u say homegrown tomatoes!), and are in or near lower orange county, lemme know! :)

Best to you and yours

DAP -- Sorta depends on your definition of "big," as in the size of your trees and rocks, and just how many of them you have. Considering the size of your land, either tractor will do you well aside from the other concerns.

Besides, if the trees and rocks are huge, how about renting a beast for the heavy work, then use the 2710/2910 for maintenance..? I have an L3010 which I love, but it's still too small for some chores. So every couple of years I bring in a trackhoe. Nice arrangement!

Re: While I\'m at it ...

Thanks for the reply Pete ... big

Big=50 foot dead elm and ash (horrible blight in US) need to be dragged from the brush for firewood. Rocks are 100 pounders ... I think this is well within the specs for a FEL (with hooks) ...

mostly this is all just general forestry maintenance on the surrounding property lines.

I'm not mechanically experienced, but can figure anything out if I have to.

DAP, that sounds like the right tractor to me; especially since I have a B2710./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif And don't pay any attention to the conservative estimate in the manuals calling for a 4' brush hog. Go with all 5' implements (brush hog, box blade, tiller, finish mower, etc.). Only my opinion, of course, and what I'm using myself.
