Argh....i bent another body panel. I won't say which brand, but it will set me back another 280 to replace it. The trend among some makers is to have several models that have their own unique body panels, etc, and there are no aftermarket parts, you have to go back to the manufacturer. I've HAD IT! I plan to just bend it back into shape, but Da*n, this is getting old!

So which model, new or used, has the cheapest parts?

(background - i USE my tractor. I don't baby it like i should so stuff gets bent, broken, scratched, etc. There are a couple of problem areas since this is a new model, that makes it obvious that the maker did not engineer this thing to be bulletproof like older iron. )

I don't think any company out there manufactures after market body parts except for the old antiques that are being restored. I just don't think there would be much of a call for body parts on newer tractors to make it worth their while. I guess my question is, what are you doing that you are busting up body parts so much?

well, i don't want to get my own post off topic, but i bought a new model that really didn't have a history, and I (and many folks like me who bought the new model) am a guinea pig to test the model. I have replaced the step that hangs down so low it catches stumps, the gas tank is exposed below and I have knocked a sending unit off of it just from brush hitting it. It came with no armor, and none is commercially available for it. I fabricated armor for the underbelly. I'm not complaining, not bitter, but for rough work I am tired of replacing parts!

if you read between the lines, I need to justify to my wife why I need to buy another tractor. Any ideas?

Tractors just aren't made to be bulldozers, you're going to tear stuff off and bend things if you use them in brush, don't ask me how I know. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif I just armored mine up and try to let the FEL clear the way and hope the armor catches the stuff I miss.

true.................but wouldn't it be nice if a tractor manufacturer would follow GM Saturn's lead and make composite panels?

I've dinged my CK30 up a few times and grill guards, belly pans and brush bars wouldn't have saved me. My fault?.........absolutely but a composite panel or fender would be sweet! What is the last thing that should be on a tractor?

I really cant tell you. I have seen ads in magazines for fenders, hoods or various tractors such as the 8n's etc. I don't rebuild tractors so I can not honestly tell you where. Maybe someone else could chime in who does do restoring of old tractors.

Edit;

Here is a place

Parts

Click on the Ford tractor you want and you can find all kinds of parts including hoods and fenders.

I've seen aftermarket parts available for (of course) 2N/9N/8N Fords, NAA's, and 600 through 900 series. (and limited parts for the thousand series)

All the "letter series" John Deeres have TONS of aftermarket parts, as well as the number series of 2 cylinders. "New Generation" Deeres have lots of aftermarket goodies available too.

Ferguson/ Massey-Ferguson/ Massey Harris has several models with aftermarket parts available.

Most everything IH ever built, you can get parts for too.

Some models have a far more extensive list of available parts than others. Hoods seem to be in short supply for most everything EXCEPT 8N's and old Deeres.

Also, there's dozens of "boneyards" around that specialize in salvaging old tractor parts.

The key word here is "OLD". You're not apt to see many aftermarket parts for anything newer than 25 years old (at the minimum)

If you keep tearing up body panels, you might want to just beat them back until they are servicable and keep going. Once, if you ever, get done with the rough stuff, then you can look at buying new body panels to pretty up your tractor again.

I've seen a dozer with body armor taken down by a small sapling no bigger then my pinky finger. It managed to work its way into a small hole under the driver's station where it broke a $3.00 fitting on a fuel line. It took about 6 hours of work to reach that fitting.

Just goes to show you, no matter what you do, something is always gonna get you. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
