Which tractor - L3038 or XR4046?

Will you ever need to lift something heavy with the FEL, such as a 5 foot round bale? I had an L3400 (essentially same tractor as the L3800), and could not lift round bales off the ground, which is why an XR4046 sits in the barn now. LOVE the tractor. LOVE the cab. If you don't need to lift anything that heavy, then you can do everything you need with the L3800, it will just take longer because of smaller attachments.

As far as trailer, I have a 24 footer, and the tractor with FEL and 6 foot brush hog attached FILLS it up. Anything less and the tail wheel would hang off the back of the trailer.

Did the 4530 have any hydraulic remotes? I've read here multiple times that they are $500-800 per set to install. Whereas, the LS comes with two sets and extendable lower links on the 3 pt. The 4530 is a pretty basic utility tractor from what I've read. Just something to consider.

Go with the bigger one, you'll be happy you did. I have a 3038 and I love the tractor, and for 85% of what I do, it's perfect. A bigger tractor wouldn't really work as well in some of the places I use it. However, if they'd trade me even up or even let me trade it for the bigger one and not charge me a ton, I'd upgrade without hesitation. You'll be happier with the bigger heavier tractor for sure, just as others have stated, make sure you get enough trailer and your vehicle can pull and stop the bigger/heavier equipment.

It will depend on what you're wanting to do with a tractor. I just came from a NH TC 33. I miss the maneuverability in tight spots but although I've not had it long a quick run through the field with the bush hog sealed it. Im glad I went with the XR4046.

We upgraded our small tractor, a Kubota B2710, to an LS XR4046HC late last year. We are very pleased with the extra power, FEL lift capacity, and most of all the cab. The only thing I really miss from the Kubota is the mid-mount mower which was very handy mowing around trees in pastures.

The XR has been trouble free. We added hydraulic top and side links, from Brian @ Fit-Rite and a Piraña Tooth Bar to the FEL Bucket.

The SSQA on the FEL makes changing from bucket to pallet forks to hay spear quick and easy.

You would be very happy with an LS XR series.
