I had a choice between Agriculture or R4 Industrial tires. I choose industrial tires because my use for the tractor is mainly for bush hogging. I am planning to do some tilling in the future, so I was stuck deciding which one I needed the most. I also felt the the agriculture tires would tear up the turf more.

Which tires did you buy with your tractor and why?

I only have 3 acres, and it's all lawn. I also find myself driving down the road a fair bit to get this or that or help out a neighbour. My choice was either R4's or turfs. I took R4's because I was told I wouldn't tear up the lawn and would get better traction. I also think the resale value is a little better with R4's or Ags.

industrial. First and foremost cause they will last 2x as long,. I have plenty of traction in 4x4 mode anyways.

I do alot of work on gravel roads also. My old tractor had ag tires and i was always tearing up the gravel roads in the turns.

"Ag" is just that- designed for tillage, ie, pulling a plow, disc, etc. Once upon a time, that was all that was available.
Only a farmer really wants Ag tires, and the resale value of R-4s, plus their "all purpose" design is the way to go. Unless you are farming, or running a mowing business.

I got the turf tires with the idea that I would be doing lots of winter/snow work. Someone told me that the R4's were really hard (no traction) on snow/ice. My second tractor (new) has R4's. I will be able to comment on the ice/snow traction difference if we have a normal winter this year. EAch tire is better for it's use. Ags shine for traction. Turfs are great on turf. R4's are a compromise between the two, and stiffer for loader type work. Each tire is best in certain uses. My free opinion is worth every penny you pay.

You will want the R4 industrial tires because they are the heavy duty tire. Thicker carcass, more rubber, more puncture resistant, etc.

The real question is... what oddball(specialty) use requires that you NOT use R4 tires?

Actualy in really soft mud the r4 will keep you from being buried they don't dig as deep and gives you time to use the loader to help yourself out of the soft mud . Traction for pulling may be a little less than ag but normally you won't notice it go r4 all the way also the r4 will be more stable on hills

You should get the Ag tires if you are spending most of your time in the woods. You don't want them if most of your time will be on lawn or roads cause they will wreak havoc. I got Ag tires because most of the time I am in the woods on hilly terain or playing in the dirt.

R4 tires have a much higher load rating compared to the Ag tires. That may be important if you are using the loader to the max.

I agree with what you said, but you may not know about this technique. I used the L3400HST I had at the time last winter in one snow and Ice event, while it was not a large snow, it seemed to make a difference. See what you think.:

I have R4 of course for all the reasons already listed. They are right for me.
