790 John Deere, 2000
I bought the parts for the Top-link at the Central Tractor closing nearby. I am going to run from the FEL connections up front to the link in back. I don't have the FEL (yet/w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif ) so I figured it'd be crazy to buy another SCV.
The only thing I didn't pick up today was the quick-coupler. I had no idea there were so many sizes! Anybody know the size? I have the parts book (see pg 70-18, part #1, AM10240), but it only does JD numbers, not actual sizes.

Mark, its just the internal half you're looking to match up with the Deere supplied quick coupler right?

I got my all my parts thru the JD dealer including the piece I think your askin' about, except the part number from my book and also what is on the pkg I have is AM102420. The internal thread looks to be what they call 1/2-20 STOR (straight thread o-ring).

Your right there are alot of different size fittings available. Match a standard ISO tip thread with the hose either straight coupled or with an adapter

Check this link for some thread charts, along with couplers both OEM and ISO, and other fittings too.
Helps to sort it all out. /w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif

Mark - went through the same problem of what hydraulic connector to use when I was addint TNT. Wanted to use the same as the SCV (I have a loader but added valves for the TNT). Found them at Central Tractor, they were the Safeway Brand with a part no. of S20A-2P for both set of male and female (about $14). These are 1/4 inch quick connects, the poppet style with 1/4 inch pipe thread. One of the packages says male tip only is S41-2P. John Deere uses the poppet valve instead of the ball valve, I beleive that the poppet valve permits greater flow than the ball valve in this size. You should be able to cross reference the Safeway no. to other brands. Hope this helps.

Excellent site. I book-marked it. I'm sure I'll need at least something else... if not for this, then later/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif.

I ended up going back down there and taking a guess. I believe that's the part I got, but it's in the barn. I went and bought the male, when I needed the female /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif. Oh well, I'll either get a female-female or a new quick-coupler. Now I know how Bird felt.

Thanks for the help guys. This was the first time I'd started a post.

I recently purchased a used JD 59" snowblower originally from a 42/43/4400 series for my 790. Although much of the snowblower is interchangeable, I needed to purchase some 790 specific mounting parts and adapt the hydraulics.

Thanks to TBN'rs and TBN archives, I was able to find the exact quick coupler plug from Hydraulic Fitting Online . Their quick coupler plug P/N P40-4-4 (Pioneer/Parker 4010-2P) at $4.28 each is an exact replacement for JD P/N AM102420 @ $11.50 each. Per HalseyGreen these quick coupler plugs are 1/4 inch quick connects, poppet style with 1/4 inch pipe thread.

Not only did TBN help save me $29 (for 4 plugs) but also introduced a great site for hydraulic fittings. Thanks again!
