I have a '01 Ram2500. The right headlight has a leak. I sealed it around the seam, where I could feel a leak if I blew in to it. Still leaks has 1" of water in it, and a blown bulb again(I think it also needs new seal for bulb/socket). Both headlights are a little hazed over. I want to replace the leaky one, but should replace both so they are matched and one is not hazed over.

I have been looking on Ebay, Amazon, and web searching; there is an overwhelming variety of housings and lamps, from straight replacements, to HID's, to projectors.

Has anyone replaced the headlights in an older truck like this? Anything in particular besides stock?

i bought the cheap economy replacements from Rockauto.com for my 98. 30/per. so far, had them 9 months no issues. i am a cheap SOB, and at 194K miles, didnt want to outspend the truck haha.

I did my 2002 [ old BR body style, I call it my 2001.5 ] last summer. Bought the clear light fixtures on ebay, and new bulbs [ GE Nighthawk Platinum ] from Amazon. The resulting light output is noticeably brighter than the old stock fluted lens fixtures. I had tried different bulbs in the stock lens, but was never happy.

I had a simalar issue with rear tailights. it would fill up with water from rain. I thought I fixed it with silicone but still still get water inside so I ended up just drilling a drain weep hole on bottom of tailight and putting in bulb grease in bulb sockets to prevent rust and havent had a problem since.

Hids are nice, but expensive. I've also read that some people have issues making them work right on older vehicles, but if you get a good kit, I think they are O.K. Its my understanding that adding HID's to a stock housing doesn't work well, they don't have the right cutoff and tend to blind people. I'd probably go the cheap route and get a stock type replacement, and get some good bulbs.
