Hello, new member, first post, first tractor, long time lurker.

So I have been researching tractors based on the dealers available within about 100 miles. I spent a lot of time looking over the Kubota B2600/2900 and L3200/3800 and finally decided that the L3800 HST would more than meet my needs for a many years to come. I hit the dealership yesterday (about 45mile out) and got a few quotes. On my way home I saw a billboard for Kioti and decided to have a look at the website. Turns out there is a dealer about 20 mile further than Kubota.

Would a DK40SE be close to a Kubota L3800 or would it be closer to the M series. L3800 be closer to a CK35?

I've been reading a lot and I really like the positive comments for the DK40SE FEL. Most of my work will be with the FEL. So instead of heading all the way back out I requested by email a quote on the CK35 and DK40SE with only FEL, Industrial Tires and Second Remote.

And could someone give me an idea how the DS series fits into all of this? I know its a broad question but I'm sure it could be summarized in a sentence or 2.

Just to quickly mention my uses for the tractor, 5 acre property. 2 acre clover/brush, 3 acre wooded (firewood). 300ft gravel/clay driveway. small livestock. would like to look at managing the wooded area, clean it up and possible (a few years down the road) clearing 1 acre for a new home/cabin which would require a lot of grading. Most of the wooded area is uneven. Oh yeah, and we get a LOT of heavy snow in this area.

I really appreciate the help, thanks.

I started my search with the L series as well. When I started talking to a Kioti dealer, he said that the closest price comparison to the L3800 was the DK40SE, but that the closest feature-set comparison was to the CK line. On a feature basis, he said the closest comparison to the DKxxSE was the Kubota GrandL series. Of course, before the Kubota fans get up-in-arms, I did caveat by saying that these were the Kioti dealer's words.

I think that if you compare the price of the L3800 to the DK40SE, they will come out closer than you expect, but the DKxxSE line does out-feature the Kubota L in pretty much every way. You have to look at the Kubota Grand L to start matching specs with the DK, and then your price REALLY goes up.

I really can't argue with Gunmonkeyinti as you have to clarify cost or features and it does get a bit murky. No doubt Kioti has some features at a price point you will not find on Kubota. If he doesn't show up, check with k0ua as he has owned both and I am sure can help more than I.

Good luck.

Will 2nd the Grand L /DKxxSE comparison. If you are truly going to be doing a lot of FEL work, you will have to go to a Grand L 4240 (not sure the newest models??) to match the lift capacity of the DKxxSE 401L.

Granted, the DS line uses the 402L FEL which is the same exact FEL as the 401L. The DS is more of a base line model of the DK series....kinda like the L is for Kubota. Kubota has the better dealer network than Kioti but both are great tractors....I went w/ the DK b/c of std features and overall price. A Grand L3940 was on my list. I had a hard time w/ Kubota's pivot pedal on the Grand L....wasn't comfortable for me to operate like the twin pedal on the DK.

Do go and drive them before you make your decision. That will really help in the process, I think.

Best wishes!!! Remember, photos of your new toy...oops, tractor are highly encourage here!?

My local Kubota dealer said the Grand L 4260 was their closest match to a DK40. Feature wise they were close, although the GL had some fancier HST controls, which were nice but not worth the added $8000 in cost. Also the FEL on the GL was rated at about 900 lbs less than the DK. I went with the DK, hate the dual pedal HST, I miss single pedal HST in my CK30, but when it comes to lifting... the DK is a beast. My advice... go test drive them all and see what fits you the best.

The Loader on the DK is a Beast!

Hi I would say the CK 35 is closer to the L3800 than the DK40se.. the DK40se is closer to a grand L, except for the Hydrostat transmission. The Kubota is a generation ahead. The CK35 though does have several useful features that the L3800 lacks. most notable among them is the lack of telescoping links and sway bars. But as said, drive them both, and see which you like best.

The CK35 is closer, but still a tad bigger and heavier than the L3800. I think the DS3510 is a little closer size and spec wise, but do not believe they offer it in a HST.

I dont know the current prices, but I would venture a guess that the DK40 is going to cost a bit more than the L3800 by maybe a grand or two. And the CK35 is likely to be a grand or two less. But prices depend on dealer and location.

If this tractor is only going to be used on your 5 acres, I would be concerned that the DK40 might just seem a bit big and clumsy after you get your homesite cleared. Even the L3800 would seem a bit big. I have 5 acres also. 3 wooded and 2 for the home, yard, and pond. I wouldnt want anything bigger for my land. But I am also not limited by my 5 acres. I clear fence rows, and cut a lot of firewood on a nearby farmers 600 acres.

When I bought my DS4510HS two years ago the specs on it were very similar to those of the Kubota L4400 however the price of the Kioti was a lot lower.

You guys are awesome.

All the information here really helped me get brand comparison in to perspective. I think I am leaning towards the CK model. I like the weight and wheel base/clearance compared to the L3800 but the loader seams to be slightly better on the L3800. I think it's really going to come down to the L3800 and CK30/35 in the end. I'm quite sure I'll be going the HST route in the end also, from what I've read it looks like the best option for loader work.

I received a quote back from Kioti and LD1 your right on the money for cost difference. The dealer also recommends the CK series over the DS or DK series based on my uses. He also had very similar comments on everything else. You guys really know your stuff, thanks again!
