I have a 20+ acres property in Nova Scotia, Canada. Around 10 acres is a field with some steep slopes. I want to buy a tractor and decided to go for a Kubota. Which is the right one?

For mowing I figured that, given the slopes, width and wheel base in relation to ground clearance are a factor. I don't necessarily want the heaviest possible thing and mowing is what I will mostly do. However, once you have the tractor, things like snow plowing and taking care of the other 10 acres with a lot of dead wood and trees come to mind.

Would the bx 2660 do or should I go for the b 3200? The smaller b's don't seem to make sense as they are almost the same width as the bx and have a higher point of gravity.

I appreciate your input. Best from sunny Nova Scotia, toon

toon,

Welcome to TBN.

I would go with the slightly larger tractor. Just a little more power & capable machine. Little more weight & 300# more rear lift. With the amount of property you have, definitely go bigger.....you won't regret it.

Good Luck & GET THAT TRACTOR !!

I would skip the BX series and go to the B3200 or one of the smaller B2920/2620's.

You won't regret buying the B3200 as it is very powerful without being an unmanageable size.

Since you have decided to go with Kubota, you may want to move this to the Kubota forum to get thoughts from more Kubota owners. Anyway, for 20+ acres, I would also say that a BX is smaller than you need especially to be able to operate a larger rotary mower. I try to keep at least 20+ acres of my old farm under control with my L4330 and 6ft rotary mower (brush hog). Needless to say, I wish sometimes that I had an M series tractor and a larger mower to save time. I would go with at least a B series tractor for the increased PTO, lift capacity and ground clearance. You may even want to look at the smaller L series tractors. Filled tires and moving the wheels to a wider position should address some of your center of gravity concerns with a B or L tractor.

I would also recommend the larger B series. If you mostly plan to mow (using a three-point rotary mower) the B 3200 will comfortably handle a five-foot mower medium or light duty mower. If you want to mow more than five feet at a time you'll need to look at a larger machine. For many one-tractor families, the B is a great mix of size (both large enough and small enough) and capability.

I hear ya Thomas. With 20+ acres to tend, perhaps an "M" :D :D :D

I know at first I thought 20 to 25 hp in the 2000lb range would work for me, so I bought a 24 horse 2500lb tractor with FEL. I grew out of it in a year or so. Now I've got a 35 hp 6000lb TLB and a 42 hp skid steer and it's still not enough. Good luck with the tractor shopping toon.

ps: there is always wheel spacers for a wider foot print.

For snowblowing (plowing) and mowing (if you are affected by grass pollen), I would recommend a cab. My B 3030HSDC would be perfect for the jobs that you mention.

Hey Guys,
Thanks a lot for your advise. Just after I posted my question two days ago, a new posting appeared saying that brand specific questions should be a the brand discussions, so I did post a new thread at "Kubota"and took the opportunity to be a bit more specific.

Again the field covers a hill which is not that high, 65 feet, but there are a few steep slopes. It has been mowed once or twice a year by someone with a big tractor and a cutter. I am thinking of getting into something in between a pasture and a lawn. I figured that I could do that by mowing it twice a month using a mmm; 60" in case of the bx 2660 and 72" with the b 3200. Does that make sense to you?

In general I like to go with smaller things rather than larger, but only if it works of course. I tried to do it with a BCS walk behind tractor. It took me 20 hours and I lost 5 pounds (the weight loss was great but the time ridiculous.

The maneuverability of the bx on the steep parts seemed attractive to me. Is taking of the mmm and the fel a big job?

Thanks again, toon
