Which dirt scoop?

I am looking to buy a dirt scoop for my YM2000B and am not sure whether to get a 24" or 30". A dealer recommended a 24", but I see several guys are using 30" on 2000's and even 1700's. Do they work satisfactorily or are they too heavy when loaded for a 2wd?

I'd say get the big one. Unless you are trying to pick up a boulder, you aren't likely to put more than your tractor can lift in it. In fact, even if you have 1/3 of a large rock sticking out, you'll still be able to lift it if you have enough weight on the front end. (This is based on a 21HP Kubota.) Loose material tends to fall out, so you'll appreciate the extra mulch or sand you can carry with the larger scoop.

Go for the 30 inch scoop. I had one on my YM2000. It handled it very well with front suitcase weights.

Make sure your arms will lift high enough to dump the three ft scoop. I have read in posts on the old site that some scoops would not dump because the arms would not lift high enough.

I have a 30" from Tractor Supply. Cost $239. Well built.

I have a small Kubota and it works just fine.

Get the 30". I have a 30" scoop for my 1510. It works well, but could use a little more weight on the front end. When I fill it to the point of falling over the sides, with wet dirt, the front end wants to lift. If I drive in reverse to where I am taking the load, it works fine. If you are not in a hurry, consider buying a used scoop. You will probably pay 1/3 to 1/2 the price of a new one. All you"ll most likely give up buying a well built used scoop, is some paint may be rubbed off.

Yep! I have a 1401d--and did have a 24" scoop but couldn't lift it high enough to dump...
Unfortunately, I returned the scoop before posting my predicament to you guys on the old Yahoo group. If I had been willing to do a little rigging, I could've made it work! I'm still kicking myself for that one/w3tcompact/icons/mad.gif, especially after reading how useful those scoops can be.

I'm the guy with the 1700 and a 30" scoop.. The tractor is strong enough to lift more dirt than the scoop can hold. I had to add about 200lbs to my front to counter ballance.

Works great. Also, I did change out my lower lift arms to longer off the shelf ones from tractor supply ( ford 8n??).. but works great.

Actually, Soundguy, I did sneak a peek at your profile. That's what prompted the question. I may take the dealer's suggestion and get the 24" just to be sure it will lift high enough to dump and not have the weight problem.
