I think Colorado sounds good. Never been there but the idea of living in the mountains appeals to me.

I travelled the world quite a bit when younger...Europe, Middle east, Asia mostly...but honestly now...

I know this place just north of Pgh, Pa...suits me, my wife, and two Kubota's just fine... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Jump ship, see what's out there...then sink your roots...at home or somewhere else that suits you...all depends on you really. You have to roam before you realize that home is not that bad, but neither is somewhere else either.

All depends on you... /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Lots of things to consider. Do you need/want to work? What kind of weather would you like? How about finances? What cost of living can you afford? Do you want a quiet, sleepy community or a vibrant night life? How about a university town?

Like I said, lots of things to consider and there's no pat answer for everyone. It's going to depend on what you want and need.

For me, I'd probably enjoy a smaller university town. Being around young people is something I really enjoy. I'd want somewhere with seasons. I don't mind snow or cold at all. I'd want to be somewhere I could still work doing something I'd enjoy.

If I could get season tickets to all of the games I could easily see myself somewhere on Tobacco Road in the middle of Duke, Wake Forest and North Carolina. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Can't beat the cost of living in middle america. We coastal dwellers pay the price.

What do you do for fun? I like to sail & ski so New England works for me.

First of all, I can't imagine anyone who ever got sand in their shoes wanting to leave Florida. Maybe the reason is because you're not really in Florida; you're way up there in the cold, frozen North, in an area that probably should be part of Georgia. The best advice I can give you is to move South -- but no further South than a line running roughly along State Road 70. That's also roughly the line between growing zones 9 and 10, which means that you get the best of all sections of FLorida in landscaping. I'm in Port St. Lucie, now, and am really excited about getting to Okeechobee as soon as possible. Further West, consider Arcadia if you want it rural or Bradenton/Fort Myers if you want it Suburban. Anything North of State Road 60 (Vero Beach, Lake Wales, Tampa) is too cold.

That's a toughie. I was born and raised in Arizona. I do like mountains. But I spent the next twenty five years in Southern California. I loved the mountains and the ocean.

And here I am in flat northern Texas, darn. Right now it's hot and humid, miserable, miserable, weather for work. I'm fighting traffic every day. The job I'm doing is no more than six miles by the way the crow flies away from the house and I've either got to go through road construction with all it's delays or go twice as far by backroads.

Yet I strongly suspect if the ship came in and the port survived I'd want to live here in this area. I think it's mostly about the people and our history together.

There's something about not having to explain yourself or to act like something you're not. These folks have learned who and what I am and have made adjustments for me, being, well, different.

I still love the mountains. And I'm sure if I had the opportunity I'd be playing in the sand at the beach. But day in and day out I'll take this nasty clay, terrible humid heat this time of year, and a life style that fits me. There's something to be said for being around people you know and care about.

I actually love where I live at now. It is quiet but growing up in other parts of the county. I am about 1.5 hours from Washington D.C. or Baltimore if I choose to watch a football, baseball, basketball, or soccer game. We have mountains and nice rivers for recreation. Land is still rather inexpensive compared to the city, but is increasing steadily.
Just remember to buy plenty of land and start with a smaller house as it is much easier to add on to your house but usually tough to add on to your land. Wild wonderful WV is home for me!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I would choose to stay in New England. Absolutely beautiful country. Financial factors would determine where exactly I would choose. If I could retire comfortably tomorrow, I'd look to the Rangely, Maine area. Really nice countryside & terrific people.
