I need to relace the battery on my 3415. I've l've looked on the internet quite a bit but can't find much info on it and would rather not buy one from the dealer. Is it possible to get one from Sam's, autozone, etc.?

I would try NAPA first. I've only had my TC40 for a couple of weeks, and have not needed parts. But, NAPA was able to crosslist filters and battery for my old Kubota.

Go to your local parts store with old battery and get the largest battery that will fit your tractor {height ,width and length } and best amp rateing , also match your posts

Is there a reason other than price that you do not want to go OEM? If it is price I would find out wether their stocked batteries are dry or wet. This can help guarantee that you are getting a new battery and can be worth the extra money if they fill them on demand. If not, do like the previous post or look for the catagory # on the battery that will tell any parts house all of the specifics on the battery, size , rating, etc.

It is absolutely possible to get a replacement from any place that is willing to take the time to match your battery or that has a replacement parts list. NAPA is certainly a good source.

Here is what I found. New Holland has a direct dry replacement or a wet cell replacement. The dry battery is F170 and $93. The wet battery is F170DSW and is $104 (data from messicks.com). NAPA has two batteries: 1. BAT7237 is 925 CCA, Group 31P; 2. BAT7235 is 1125 CCA; Group 31P. I do not know the prices for the NAPA batteries, but you could get a quote from your local NAPA. You can also use the Group 31P and the CCA rating to find a suitable battery at any auto parts dealer.

BTW: Your battery on the 3415 is the same as in the 2120.

Jim, I'm not sure where your cross-reference info is sourced, but my feeble memory tells me that an F170 battery is a BCI group 27. I'm not familiar with a group 31P, but I have my doubts that a straight group 31 will fit the 3415.

The 31P battery is a commercial grade battery that appears to be about 3/4" larger than the group 27 in two dimensions. The 31P battery is the cross-reference for both the 2120 and 3415 on NAPA's and Batteries Plus websites. It just might be that the 31P will fit the 2120, but be too big for the 3415. Messicks lists the same battery (F170) for both tractors, but that could be because the smaller physical size will fit both. Of course, I don't know. It's just what I found with a bit of internet searching. Most cross-reference charts list the 2120 and not the 3415, so there may several false assumptions going on here.

31's are pretty much commercial use batteries anyhow. Heavy duty trucks use them by the millions. I just figured out what the 'P' is for, although the charts I looked at didn't list a 31P. 31's come in Post and Stud configuration. The P must be a post type, I'll bet they list a 31S as well. I won't argue with NAPA, as their cross reference info is usually pretty good. But I'd bet it's a chore to get a Group 31 battery down in there without removing the hood. FWIW, a 3415 and 2120 have similar, if not identical space for the battery. NH part number for a 31P would be F770 and the 31S would be an F775.
