I just bought a used 16 ft trailer in good shape for a good price, however I'm thinking about replacing the existing pair of non connected ramps with new pair of ramps or a dual mesh gate for my BX25. Questions? Where can I buy these in Northeast Massachusetts and at what price? Secondly, which type of ramp would be best for the BX25 on a 16ft trailer? All input welcomed. In advance thanks much

Stay away from a mesh gate. They cause tons of wind drag and can not support a tractor unless very heavy. They are ok for landscapers who are on and off the trailer 10 times a day with a ZTR but not for a tractor. Another issue is what happens when you want to get 20' long lumber and your trailer is 16'????

As for ramps you will have to have them built. There is no standard on ramp design or length for trailers so it will be a custom item. Another issue with connected ramps is the weight. Consider all these things you may be better off with what you have.

In regards to hauling 20' on a 16' with gate. Some trailer manufacturers are now building landscape type trailers with fold down gates. The gate folds into the bed and lies flat. Handy feature for hauling longer items and still being able to utilize the trailer.

I have 3 trailers and ALL have mesh gates on them. So much safer than ramps for loading/unloading. Do they have wind drag??? Yes they do. If you are doing short hauls, I dont find this a problem. I have taken mine off if going to a auction say 30 miles away or more, and just taking my ramps if needed.

If you in a situation where you haul like the 20' lumber, just take the gate off and leave it at home. Its a 2 person job, but easy to do.

One of my trailers the gate is made outta 2" tubing. I have loaded my 3500 roller several times, loaded a 96 F250 4X4 Powerstroke once, and my 2520 w/ loader and tiller weigh in around 3500-3700lbs. Gate is strait as a arrow after 9 years.

Captg, you will have to go to a local welding shop and have a gate built more than likely. Make sure you design it so your tires run right up the uprights. All three of my gates are different, I can get some pics of them if you want.

First is the 16'. The gate is 3' and made of 1 1/2" tubing.

Next is the 20'. Its a 4' gate and is 2" tubing.

And this one is my 25' gooseneck. The gate on this one is 5' and is 2" tubing too. I have bars to allow the gate to be stood strait up and 3 positions inbetween full up and full down like in picture.

In this picture is the hinge at the bottom. Just drop the gate halfway to the ground and slide to the right and it comes off.

The gates were designed to allow the tires of my tractor, or mowers to run up the uprights for the most support.

I just came home with a brand new 14' tandem landscape 7000lb trailer. I was home with it for 30 minutes and attempted to take of the gate (by myself) for a dump run and crushed two of the three small rectangular-ish running light lenses under the gate. Although it was my fault, the light design/location is crap for a $2,300 trailer ($2500 with 4 stake pockets and 6 interior D-rings added for tie downs and poly tongue box). All they had to do was weld a small piece of bar-stock over the lights to protect them.

It has a ramp gate but I am thinking of getting rid of it and making a short tailgate, the same height as the side rails on the trailer. Then just using my two 5000lb 5' arched alum. ramps for loading B7500 'Bota. This way if I have to make a dump run it is easier with a low gate, or if I am hauling my brushhog or york rake I can let it hang out a couple of feet if need be. I know most guys on here recommend a longer trailer, but I find this to be a perfect length for having just one general purpose trailer. Manuverable enough for around town or to the dump, yet will haul my tractor w/ implements.

i dont see any spring assist lift on those ramps... the 4' and especially the 5' got to need 3 men and a boy to lift at least....
