I've got my little tool from Gemplers to load the tires, I'm going to try and use a drill pump to get the stuff in there (the attachment is a standard garden hose). Where can I buy calcium carbonate.

Any tips from yall who have used this tool or loaded your tires?

Thanks,
Rob

Do you mean Calcium Chloride???

If I remember correctly Calcium Carbonate can be found at any pool supply place. Usually you can get it in 40# bags.

Hope that helps.

Suggest you use water for a dry run. I had to modify that tool with a tube extending internally into the tire from the breather connection in order to prevent leakage from the breather while filling. I guess you could, instead, plumb the leakage back to the supply. Anyway, no problem spilling water, and youve got the climate to use it. If you dont need every bit of weight possible, the convenience of water wins.

CaCl2

You can usually get it at the feed mill.

Forgot to say that you should add the cacl2 to the water, slowly. It will get hot if you add it too fast! Don't forget to stir to get it all dissolved.

Ask some of the farmers in your area. Odds are they've got sometires filled with Calcium Chloride and may know where to get it. (Of course, some of their tires are so heavy when filled, they may have had the tire service do it for them...)

BTW Calcium Chloride is a type of salt (and corrosive... which is why I second the recommendation to look at Rim Guard).

And to answer the posters question.. you can get the caco3 in the school supply section of your favorite office supply or kids store. Crayola, dixon, hansen, and irwin are popular makers...

Wedge

I talked with "THE MAN" who owns the rights to RIM GAURD at the National Farm MAchinery Show in Louisville Ky back in Feb. He was looking for distributors, tire stores, ect, but was willing to sell to just about anyone who was willing to buy in "sufficient quantity". No, I didn't pursue the question of what "sufficient quantity" was/is.

The current owner bought the rights from whoever had originally marketed the product and was looking to build the business by promoting RIMGAURD, then sell out for a hefty profit in a few years. Sounds like a plan!
