I need a ballast box for my MF GC2300. I don't want to build one - no welder and no metal either. Need to put about 300+ lbs. on the rear. What I had was plywood and it gave out after several years use. Suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Try a Box blade, double duty.

Have one - but what I really need is a ballast box for this particular application. Thanks anyway - the reply is appreciated.

You could make one out of concrete, buy one of the tractor supply 3pt drawbars, to get the pins and the start to bolt some angle iron to the predrilled holes in the drawbar, that come up to form your top link connection. The most metalworking you have to do is drill some holes in the angle iron, you can use a hand drill for that. Put everything in a box for to fill with concrete, when it sets up, remove the wooden forms and now you have a concrete weight with your 3pt connections cast into the concrete.
Not a lot of work, or money. I am not sure which of these bars you need. depending on your size. I would use some 2 inch angle for the uprights, and drill your holes and get the cross pin for the top link.

If you're into a do-it-yourself with no welder needed, build a box form with plywood/osb, stick a drawbar through it and bolt something to catch your top link with, and fill it with sack-crete. If you oil the wood down before placing the crete, you should be able to strip it right off after the mud cures. Concrete is generally in the 140 lb./cubic foot range to give you a reference for box size according to how much weight you need.

Well now, there you go, a complete solution, minus a little plywood or OSB, some used motor oil, a few bolts and nuts and 4 80 lb. bags of sackcrete. Heck it don't get a whole lot easier than that.

He can get busted bags at lowes for 1/2 off. Ask to look at their dunnage pile and get a sheet of OSB and he will have a inexpensive ballast.
