Tractor
Kubota L3400, Farmall A
Hello all,
I am looking for a couple of enhancements for my tractor, but I have struck out in an hour of searching on the internet. Maybe you all can help me.
Item #1 - I want to add some front weight to my Kubota L3400 for doing certain tasks like plowing and disking. The tractor is light in the front and is tricky to turn in loose soil, especially with the disk. I have learned to go slow and be careful, but I think I can improve the situation.
I have some bar type weights laying around the farm, so my first thought was a box mounted on the front. Where might I find/purchase such a thing? I thought this had the added benefit that I could carry extra tools in it when not using the weights or if I had to carry small items to the back of the farm.
Item #2 - is there some sort of cover/netting for the grill? Last summer, I was mowing fallow fields where mare's tails had gone to seed. I had a terrible time with the small seeds going right through the grill and clogging the air filter. I overheated the tractor once. After that I had to stop multiple times to clean it out. There has to be a better option, right?

Thanks,
Glen

Window screen works good, get the soft nylon, cheap stuff. Cut it a little larger then you want and roll the edges up some and staple them, this will give the edge a little bit of stiffness. How you hold it on the tractor is another matter, maybe zip ties.

Check w/your dealer,it maybe cheaper in the long run to purchase from them...frame and weights...compare to purchasing welder etc. grinder etc. or having some one fab one,but than again it would be good time to purchase welder etc. ;)

Have you considered filling the front tires with fluid or foam?

Not sure if filling front tires is a good idea.

I always thought it would be great to have an on-board air supply on my tractors with a hose & blow gun to blow out the grilles while mowing or operating in those nasty conditions.

I use a frameless high flow furnace filter, and set it right in front of the radiator. Washable, stands up to compressed air cleaning/drying. Maybe even to a power washer, but I haven't actually tried that yet. Available at WalMart for ~4 bucks. Cuts with a scissors, enough in one package to cover both my tractor radiators.

I would stay away from fluid in the front tires. Make a weight box or bracket that can double as a tool/weight carrier. A tractor should only have weights when needed. Small front suitcase weights are about 44lbs or so each. Easy to mount or remove.

Nylon screen works nice for keeping out debris. We used it for keeping out bees wings on our pickups during harvesting. Same issue, overheating.
