I own a Kubota L3300 4x4. I have a d5 cat on my 20 acres doing some clearing right now and we had multiple burn piles. I was helping push some small brush into the burn piles and noticed an oil leaking onto the front left wheel. It is coming from the hub or somewhere behind the wheel. I have not taken the wheel off yet to see, but I am curious if there is a seal or something that needs to be replaced, or what should I look for? I am hoping I have not tore something up, it was in 4x4 when I was using it and it started leaking. The wheel is very dirty in this pic, it was rainging and I was pushing brush into a burn pile.

From looking at the pic, it seems it has been seeeping for a while. Then broke loose big time. Probably just a seal, however, a bearing gone out will blow the seal. I would check it out before running much. Ken Sweet

It looks like the front axle seal. If you search the Kabota Forum you will find lots of info on this. Seems like a common problem. I would not run it until I got it checked out. If you do the search you will see in one case it was caused by or accompanied by backed bevel gear bolts inside.

I pulled the wheel off and the hub. Its coming from right behind the hub. I pulled the whole assembly off and the bearing looks good. I am not sure how to take any more apart to even get to the seal so I will take it to my local Kubota tomorrow and see if they can replace it for me.

That is different from what I thought it would be. I should have realized the seal I was thinking would have leaked mostly on the inside off your wheel. Thanks for the update and keep us posted on what you find.

I think the offset wheel has some holes and is leaking through the holes onto the outside of the rim.

I have no clue how to get the bearing off to get to the seal.

Looks like from the parts breakdown that you will have to press the shaft out of the bevel gear then pull off the bearing off of the opposite side of the bevel gear to access the seal. Here is a link to a parts breakdown download that may help.

Randell,

Thanks for the PDF link. Do you happen to have a service manual link for a B21?

Dropped the part off today at my local Kubota dealer. They are going to replace the seal. Supposed to be done tommorow. They get $65 per hour labor, they said it should take 30 minutes.

Well picked up the hub yesterday. The bearing went out and the seal was bad. So after replacing the seal, the bearing and a new o ring plus labor and enough gear oil to fill the axle back up I spend $104. Got the it all back together and no leaks.

Thanks for the update. All in all it does not sound like bad damage to your wallet and the tractor is good as new.

Thats exactly what I think. It really helps when you can get it down to the piece that needs fixing and bring it into the shop your self.
Thanks for the update.

I know you got it all fixed - but in case you ever have to do the other side, taking the bearing and gear off is easy. In this thread there's a diagram of the parts - the bearing just slides off (maybe needs a screwdriver to get it started off - but it's not tight on there. ) Behind it is the gear and then a split ring you lift out - then the hub slides out exposing the seal. Take care, Dick B
