Take a close look at the middle blade, now blade(s)! as well as the lower part of the anvil.

My problem is that I don't even know what brand of chipper I have (typical yard sale purchase!) and there is no writing on it at all.

Anyway, my 2 chipper blades are approx 8 inches x 1 7/8. (These are only approx measurements using nearby Harbour freight tape!) The anvil measures approx 6 1/2 x 1 7/8.

I have no idea where to start looking for a set of these without getting ripped off.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the replies. I still have a problem however and that is I don't know what brand pto chipper I have. When I call the stores they all ask what brand chipper since they don't go by sizes but rather brand and model.

This leaves me in a bit of a pickle. I may end up having to go the machine shop route.

I called a few other knife and saw places and they said all their listings for blades are under the Mfg and then model no.

While all the blades have a specified size under their description, they are not listed under the size, again only brand and model.

If I could find someone at one of these places do simply do some digging and see if some of the knive sizes match up I could possibly find a match. I'd bet anything they could find one closes enough that would work; even if I had to cut it down.

Maybe I'll put Mrs. Hunky on the phone to do the sweet talkin' !

UPDATE:

Well I found out today that my chipper is called a "machete" model 18 and the cheapest (only) blades I found are $275.00!

That's nutz!

I think I'm going to look into buying a piece of tool grade hardened steel and having a machine shop cut, drill and edge it. Hopefully this would be cheaper and worth while doing.

I found two places listing them for $165 per set of two knives. Here is one but know nothing about them. I did a google on machete model 18 chipper.

Yes thanks Gordon but in addition to the blades, my anvil (aka "bed knive) is cracked as shown in the first pics posted and needs to be replaced as well.

They want $165 for the blades and $85 for the anvil = $250.00!

I'm not cheap.....okay I am!, but there is just something that smells funky paying several hundred dollars for an 6''x2'' piece of metal that is only 1/4 '' thick.

I'm thinking of literally becoming a guinnea pig for everyone elses benefit and making my own set of blades just to see how much it actually costs instead of just crying about the high prices. Personally, I think it is similar to Kodak camera's in the early days or even printers in that we'll give you the camera or the printer because we are going to hold you hostage when you need to buy the film/ink it uses!

I've literally seen chipper blades (made out of the EXACT same tool grade hardened steel) be custom made for $13.00 each. Charging hundreds of dollars for the same product (because they can) is simply taking advantage of people. I'm NOT against making a good profit but I AM against hosing people just because you have them in a corner with no other options.

If a blade costs say $10 to make, I have no problem with someone even QUADRUPLING the price to $40 but $275 is just larceny IMHO!.
