I've decided to build my own spray rig and want to know where to buy the major parts like the tank, frame and bracketry. What appeals to me is a 100 gallon tank and 20 foot foldable booms. The other parts I can buy anywhere but these parts are more difficult to fabricate. Any idea who sells these things?

The reason I'm building my own is because I can't seem to find a used sprayer for sale and for new ones the asking price is probably four times the cost of the parts included. Plus the freight because I can't even find a new one for sale around here. So maybe I can build my own.

I get my parts from Sauter Spray Equipment in Portland Oregon. very knowledgeable.

Is Google not working for you? Teasing. Snyder Industries Square-Ended Poly Spray Tank — 100 Gallon Capacity | Sprayer Tanks| Northern Tool + Equipment

Foldable arms? My arms are just some 1" square tubing that swings up. 1" tubing may be a fit floppy at 10 feet but that is no matter. The design is the square tubing is cut at a 45 degree angle. Some 3/16" plate is welded to the end. A bolt and the arms swing up pivoting on the bolt. I could go out and take a picture but that would require walking. I did a 3 hour bicycle ride this morning and I am a bit worn out. Any good ag store should have some sprayers you can borrow design ideas from.

google "septic tank" and then once on various websites, look at the other size tanks. googling for other search terms is a waste of time i have found, no good correct terms to bring back a good amount of listings.. septic tank does bring back a few other stuff, but generally i get best results finding large tanks this way.

break away booms = just some sort of cheap hinge that gets welded on. and then a longer spring is used to hold the boom in place. and if ya hit something, the spring stretches, letting the boom bend backwards.

same thing for folding up/down just a generic hing that gets welded on.

northen tool, grainger,

farmandfleet, farm king, or like farm supply store should have basic sprayer stuff.

cost of fittings / hoses = what puts many folks off. this stuff is not cheap by no means. it all adds up rather quickly from a buck there, 2 there, to a couple hundred bucks before you know it.

I know how a sprayer works and how hinges work, etc. I need a hinge that will be spring bound and be able to take a hit and spring back. If I just use a hinge it will twist the boom first time I hit something--and I will hit obstructions. At farm shows I have seen a spring hitch arrangement that someone sells but I just cant remember who. The boom has to be rugged since I'm not on flat ground but high speed field and rough terrain conditions.

On the tank, it's no problem to find a tank but if I get a saddle tank I would like to be able to just mail order the metal saddle and rubber liner and not have to fab it myself. It's not worth it. If I get a flat legged tank I still would like to buy the brackets and have them mailed in. Again, I have seen these for sale at farm shows but can't remember who sold them.

Tips, hose, connectors, etc is a piece of cake since everyone sells that stuff. Plumbing is easy and I've done this stuff for decades.

My point is I can buy a complete sprayer for maybe $2000 to $2500 plus freight but I can build (merely assemble) the same or better quality sprayer for probably $1200 on my own. Pocket the difference plus I can set it up exactly as I want.

Poly Tanks, Polyethylene Tanks, Rainwater Storage Tanks ~ JTI Supply This outfit in Oregon supplies tanks, pto pumps, electrical pumps, and all components. Brian is pretty squared away and knows his stuff. For instance, if building from scratch, you should put specialized nozzle tip assemblies that have a pressure valve on them. When the main pressure goes down, these quit dripping, so when you shut off at the main, you really do cease spreading iiquid.

Here's a couple I found, doing a search for "spray boom hinge":

FARM SHOW - Breakaway Hinge For Sprayer Boom

When I built mine, I based it on this one, http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/...om-sprayer-w-foam.html?highlight=boom+sprayer. It's a long thread, but theres a ton of good info. Here's few pics of the one I built showing the boom open and stowed. The springs are a little weak, but works fine. The boom itself is WAAAY overbuilt, made out of 1" square tube. The frame for the sprayer is made of 2 X square tube, scrap angle, and a leftover piece of expanded metal. The 35 gal tank came from craigslist, the 6 roller silver series pump from ebay, and the tips, valves, strainer, fittings, hoses, etc, from local farm stores. I found 12V solenoid valves to be able to shut off the spray with the flick of a switch. Since the pictures were taken, I've added additional solenoid valves to section the boom, allowing me to spray left, center, and right side of the boom together or individually. It also has a spray wand to spot spray. HTH Mark

If you take a look at the booms sold by BOOM PRODUCT LIST - Rears Mfg Co and others (they just have some nice pictures, especially look at the Coil Shock booms) you will see that auto return booms generally have the top hinge further away from the centerline than the bottom hinge. That way the boom naturally rests straight out.
Rears also has an interesting idea where they have 2 pivots for the bottom of the boom (as seen at: http://www.rearsmfg.com/WEB PHOTOS/BOOM COIL SHOCK/DSCN9624.JPG ) that way at rest, it has 2 points to hold it straight, but it can "breakaway" either forward or backward.

Briar Hill--that's a great build and booms can really never be too overbuilt for the abuse they take. Your sprayer looks really nice and very functional. Nice springs on the booms and the feet on the frame a nice touch.

aczlan--nice sites. The boom site works for me. I've got plenty of good material to look through. Thank you.
