Kubota's - B7610, M4700
Depending on price I'm in the market for about a 2 ton machine.
Uses will be:
assisting in clearing trails by moving small logs
moving logs around sawmill
digging some ditches
lot's of small projects I have not thought of as yet
play toy
I'll get by without heat or a/c to save money

The destination where it will be used would be northeast Mississippi
I've an F350 dually and a 10K Hudson trailer to transport.

I keep reading about auctions. Where are some good links for further info?

Not all auctions but you can look on Ebay for mini excavators and there are a lot for sale new with free shipping. The Auction ones you have to arrange your own shipping. Other Online Auction websites are Auctiontime and Richie Bros.

First decide the features you want and review particular machines you are interested in to see what other folks think of the one they got.

Call your local small engines and hydraulic shops and ask them where they are sold near you. Since they're the ones that will be making the most money off you they will be the most helpful. They'll likely tell you which auction houses sell them. If they don't tell you then call your local Deere, Cat, Kubota, CNH dealer and ask them if they have any mini excavators under $10k for sale. The reason I bolded that is because if you straight out ask a dealer where Chinese excavators are sold you will end up with vomit on your face even through the phone. lol

Most likely you'll get one at an auction house, try using tractorhouse.com to research auctions. Right now, it's mostly AGT in the auctions with a few Miva, Vicsec, and Machpro labels. If you want a swing boom and/or pilot controls, there will be less to choose from.

For a chinee one? I'd start by looking in the dump or junk yard.

For moving logs you will probably be unhappy with a 2 ton. I have a 4 ton and wish it was about twice as big but it has done the job.

Pop always said you can move a mountain with a tea spoon if you have the time and patience.

I sold Chinese equipment for several years. Just be sure you check out the hydraulic control valves before you buy.. They were generally very primitive and jumpy in my day....and they won't get better with time...

If you can find a good used Takeuchi 235, or Kubota U35, or a Bobcat E26 with say 2000 hours for $25-30K is one option then look at the Shantui STE 35 (as posted above) with a Yanmar diesel, real 2 speed tracks and weighs in at 6100 Lbs and is a more commercial level machine with dual piston pumps (87 Liters PM) and better controls and cab. This machine is on par mechanically with the Kubota, Tak, or Bobcat, 6000 Lb machines.

To take a step down its the Chinese mini's and the best one in that weighs in at 3200 lbs is the Typhon Terror XIX (made by Vote) with the Kubota 902 Engine, 230 MM (9" tracks) and can be found on ebay for $10 K or less delivered to your door. These machines have a dual pump (one for pilot control (7 Liter PM and a primary gear pump 22 Liters PM).

Operation wise, these small Chinese machines are very capable, and for a 50-100 hour per year machine as a "helping hand" they work great,

I got the Typhon Terror XVIII for $11K which is made by Hightop which has the Kubota 722 engine and weighs 3400 lbs, Its a good machine but the Terror XIX has a better fit and finish.

If I had the space, and height, I would have gotten the Shantui CFG 35 STE SR from AGT for $10K more.

In your personal opinion, how does the AGT NT18 compare to the Typhon Terror XIX and XVIII? There is one sitting at a local seller who is asking $11,800 delivered. 2024 Latest AGT 1.4 ton Mini & Small Excavator, Side Swing Diesel For - agrotkindustrial
