When to change hydraulic fluid (JD1070 low usage)?

My JD 1070 is approaching 10 years old but it only has 49 hrs. on the clock. The JD manual calls for a hydraulic fluid change every 400 hrs. That'll be another 70 years!!!

Is there a time interval where hydraulic fluid should be changed??

Does anyone know the capacity of a JD1070. My manual leaves it blank but 970 is 5.5 gallons. I have the optional loader so that might make it higher.

If I change it, should I use the JD fluid, Amsoil, or buy based on price?

DAve: I would go to the dealer and buy a couple of 5 gallon pails of the type they recommend and a new filter.The moisture alone in ten years warrants the change. The price is not that much than an off-brand and the Deere will work good on the original hy-tran fluid. That is very low hours, maybe I will run that tractor a little for you??

49 hours! That's 4.9 hours per year. Or .41 hours per month. Or 5.6 minutes per week. That sounds like you just use it to carry out the trash cans on trash day?

I am going to go along with Grainger. Oil does pick up moisture. I don't know what the time frame is but I work in Refrigeration and any oil that is left open for more than an hour we pretty much have to throw away. It already has picked up enough moisture to cause problems at that point. My maintenance manual on my boat tells me to change the oil once a year regardless of hours used. They also threw in a hour amount but I never get to that point.
