I bought a new L4400 HST and have not yet taken delivery on it. The dealer is willing to store it for me for free until I get my home built. Which in all likelihood will be this spring. How much/how many wheel weights would I need on my rears to equal fluid in my tires? Does anybody have an approximate price I would pay for Kubota weights? Also, does fluid in the tires provide for better traction than wheel weights?

I have rim guard in my rears and am very happy with the extra weight and stability. The dealer filled them for free. See if your will do the same.

If my information is correct you can add 3-64# weights to each side. Total weight added being 192# to the side and total weight being 384#. The rear tires filled to Spec of 47 Gallons of fluid per rear tire (if it were water) would weigh in at 392# per tire(14.9-24 AG/R1). Calcium close to 500# per tire, Rim Guard about the same, 500#. Wheel weights cost around $100 each. I have a L4400HST and I chose to fill the rear tires with a glycol fluid mixture about the same as WW fluid. The fuid will be much cheaper and will provide better traction. The only time you may regret fluid filled tires it is when you are dealing with a flat. I would stay away from calcium for the rim corrosion issues. I have heard good things about Rim Guard. Ihave had several tractors with the WW fluid and had no corrosion with that.

Thanks for your replies. The major issue I had with fluid in the tires was questionable corrosion of the rims. But like you say, if Rimguard or something similar is not really an issue, then maybe that's the way to go.

Windshield washer fluid or glycol would be the economical choice. My previous tractor had glyocol mix in it when I got it. I had it for about 11 years and inspected the rims before I traded it in and they were in good shape.

Your profile does not list the part of the country you live in. I live in the south and use a gallon of glycol in each tire with the balance water. You may need more glycol for your weather conditions. I would skip the iron wheel weights and use the money to buy suitcase weights for your front bumper. At some point you will need them.
