While tractor'n the other night, I heard a loud clanking noise. Thought something was seriously wrong with the tractor. Took it back to the garage, and upon further inspection, I found this under the seat:

Oops. :D

reminds me one time when I was on my 15yr old ( now ) murray mower.. was 13ys then.. and was making a cut down the edge of the road right of way.. and she started banging hard.. I thought.. Oh great... POS 700$ mower is gonna give out after only 13ys :) :) and is throwing a rod or that cast iron sleeve they are so proud of is banging..

idled it down a nd drove back to barn.. looked at engine and sw it MOVING on t he frame.

upon close inspection.. the engine is held to t he unistrut frame with large lag bolts.. yeah.. like wood screws.. not fine or coarse thread bolts with nuts... just a pointy headed screw which goes thru a washer thru the mount ear and into the folded frame metal :(

what a cruddy design.. but then.. what do you expect for an economy mower..

removed and cleaned them, reinstalled with some red loctite.. 2more years and no more banging.

Some years back we rented a 310 Backhoe. It worked great for what we were doing but like most rental units they were holding us to the 8 hours of use per day for a weekend rental - keep in mind that here in Florida the days are much longer then 8 hrs.

While using the machine it stopped moving forward/reverse. We checked the fluid level and it appeared it was low - quite a bit low - it needed nearly a full bucket to bring it up. We got some fluid and topped it off - didn't help.

We called the rental place and told them about the problem and they said it would be Monday before they could send someone out.

We kept looking at the machine and found a wire underneath that looked like it was hanging ... when we followed it, it was unplugged. When I plugged it in, the 310 worked just fine.

We called the rental place and they were so happy we fixed the problem and topped off the low fluid they lifted the 8 hr time limit and let us have an extra day with the 310.
