2009 Mahindra 3316 HST-2008 Mahindra 7010 cab - 2004 Mahindra 6000 4X4
Today while using the 7010 to move some logs with the pallet forks I heard a huge pop. I was in 4wd and getting under a log when suddenly I heard a pop and the 4wd shifter jumped out of 4wd. Now when I engage the lever it will not stay. It will stay so long as your sitting still, but as soon as you move it starts to grind and pops out. 4wd does pull while its engaged.
Does this sound more like an engagement issue or something in the dif? I don't hear anything in the dif just on the inside of the cab around the lever.

If it's like my 4110 it's either a bent shift fork and/or the rear bearing on the 4wd shaft has shattered - both things have happened to mine at different times. If just the shift fork, it should be reasonably easy to repair. If the bearing is gone, it's time for a major rear split. I know nothing about your model tractor though, it could be different altogether than the 4110. My problems seemed to all come from the proximity of the 4wd shifter against my leg/hip all the time when turning in my seat to work the hitch when boxblading etc. When I bent my last shift fork I took my shifter off and heated and bent it over towards the fender more so it wouldn't hit my hip and haven't had anymore problems with it since. You have to be very gentle when shifting in and out of 4wd to not bend the shift fork inside the trans too - I have to use the shuttle back & forth, forward & reverse and very gently use the shifter on mine the rare times I take it out of 4wd for running on the road. On my 4110 you have to drain the trans, then remove the shifter/plate from the trans housing - the fork is mounted here and easy to replace. You can take a mirror and look inside the trans and see the rear of the 4wd shaft at the differential area to check the bearing etc. I was able to get the bearing from NAPA for about $4 but what you have to go thru to replace it is an extreme job and not recommended for amateurs. I hope I never have to do a rear split on mine again !!!

I called the dealer and he is supposed to get a truck down here to get it. It seems to me it is not completely engaging now. From underneath if you even touch it the thing pops right out of 4wd.
Warranty is up Janurary of next year so hopefully they can get this thing back together and I can get some hours on it before warranty expires. That way I'll know it's right.

Joel,
While it is at the dealer, ask him for a cabbed 8560 loaner. Maybe even trade the 7010 in.
hugs, Brandi

I've come to the conclusion that my dealer no longer cares if he sells Mahindra's. He picked up the Massey line and since then I haven't even been able to get him on the phone. I always get shuffled to someone else or put on hold and never get anyone. I did intend to buy a new 8560 cab this year or next and keep the 7010, but for now I think I'll start looking for another dealer. I just hate it when someone gets too big for their britches!

I think this is the biggest complaint. The dealer network is ridiculous. The product is good but Mahindra needs to step up if they want to compete with the other big players. No one is afraid to buy a Bota' as they don't have to worry about support. When you say the name "Mahindra" you can see others cringe and the first thing they ask is "how hard is it to get parts".

I don't think I would go so far as to say the dealer network is ridiculous. I agree the product is good. The local dealer did really well with Mahindra. Good enough he has 3 shops in 3 different towns. He also took the Massey line away from the Kubota dealer. I was told only for the bigger cab tractors and the hay equipment line. Unfortunately it seems that's not the way it turned out. Mahindra has some great dealers! I'd like to see them spend some money upgrading their dealer network. Really I can't complain about service to this point.
I was told today after the dealer having my tractor for almost 2 weeks it will not even be in the shop for evaluation until the beginning part of next week. For someone like me who depends on these tractors for a living, that's a hard pill to swallow.

Well the dealer network here in Central VA is ridiculous. Or should I put it the LACK of a dealer network. Who knows new dealers pop up everyday .... So far I have have had good dealings with a brand new dealer out of South Hill, VA via phone. He has earned my business just by talking on the phone!

Found out yesterday the dealer will be splitting the tractor. First diagnosis was a stripped shifter lever, but after that was installed it turns out the gears are stripped. Looks like I'll be hiring work done for cleaning out the poultry houses yet again.

Ouch. Sorry hear they have to split her. I'm sure they will get you back working soon. (cross fingers)
