What's a good sized truck mounted air compressor?

What would be a good sized truck mounted air compressor to be used for blowing out debris on a brush mulching machine?

Why not use your gas powered leaf blower?

Easy enough to try. I can guarantee you will get more volume.

I use one on my tractors at times. It's just a sears (but top dog sears model) and it does a decent job. It does have way move volume than a air hose, but not the pressure to blast away stuck down stuff. A better quality blower would probably do a good job and cost less than a compressor - but you will need to carry a small jug of 2cycle mixed gas.

Those compressors look more like what goes on a tire repair truck or service truck to run air tools. I don't think they will produce enough air for what you want. You need something more like one of these.

Those compressors look more like what goes on a tire repair truck or service truck to run air tools. I don't think they will produce enough air for what you want. You need something more like one of these.

I'm only looking to be able to blow brush debris out of the engine compartment, radiator and hydraulic cooler on a brush mulching machine. A tow behind compressor is way beyond what I'm looking for. Thanks though. lol

I was also thinking a truck mounted compressor might be handy for running an impact wrench out in the field.

I was looking at those VMAC compressors online lastnight actually. After looking them over and thinking about it, I figured I'd rather have a bed mounted compressor that can operate without the truck engine having to be running at the same time. It's a similar situation with electric generators, you can get generators that mount on the truck engine or you can get stand alone portable ones that operate independently from the truck engine.

I'm not worried about taking up space on my truck bed either with a bed mounted air compressor, so far the bed has nothing but a fuel transfer tank with a tool box mounted on top of that, and then the rest of the bed is empty so far. I still have room for mounting an air compressor if I decide to got that route and the goose neck hitch is still in the clear.

Plus if I ever decide to sell the current truck I have the option of removing the current bed with everything on it and simply installing it on a different truck. I don't know if an engine mounted compressor or generator can be swapped between two different types of engines, say a Ford 7.3L and the new 6.4L engine.

What you might consider is running one of the "standard" gas powered compressors like you can get at HD or Lowes, and then if I was doing what you are trying, I would add a "large" (as large as I can fit) air tank for volume.

I would also use a leaf blower to blow out the big debris, then a blower with a 3' extension nozzle to get the detail cleaning done.
