What would cause the MMM belt to "self-destruct"?

I don't see that it would do any harm. You have a spring that stretches in and out and puts tension on the belt.I have done it many times. My son used the mower several hrs the other day and the belts still on and looks ok.It just seems to me that the way they have the belt set up with its twisting there not gonna last that long. But I could be wrong.Thats one of these reasons I bought this Cud cause it had one less belt to wear out.

That's a relief. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I have often wondered about that, too.

Re: What would cause the MMM belt to \"self-destruct\"?

Hello -
What do you mean by "rinsing"?

I just got an older Cub Cadet model 1650, today with low hours. The guy traded it in because it went thru too many belts.

Im wondering if I could expect the same kinds of problem with the drive belt on this 1650 as you fellas were describing on the newer Cubs?

thanks, dwight

lol I just used that "rinse and repeat" phrase as an expression to do it again. No actual rinsing going on. I don't use water for anything on the Cub. Compressed air only.

I don't know about the drive belt on that model Cub. The belt that was being discussed here was the tractor to deck belt. That belt is really easy to change. Maybe someone else will be able to shed more light about the 1650.

Im embarrassed. I should have understood the vernacular.

But I did learn something. That is, other Cubs have trouble with the drive belts.

thanks,
