I've been trying to stock my pond to no avail. No matter how many bass and bluegills I put in, they just disappear. At first I blame the gators but I know my neighbors' ponds have gators and still have fish. So yesterday I fish my pond with a saltwater lure instead of the soft water lure I've been using to find fish. Baam! My tiny rod was hit with this monster redfish. It appears he's brought to the pond by hurricane water and survived. I'm sure he liked what I've been feeding him.

What interesting things are going on in your pond?

I spent two years digging my pond. It was heavily wooded before I started, and a big part of that time was spent removing trees. The water comes from rain run off, and there isn't another pond up hill from that pond for miles. Just woods and open areas that I've cleared.

I stocked my pond with fathead minnows and copper nose bluegill from Tyler Fish Farms. The owner is a very well known fish biologist that I'm confident only sold me what I wanted. No mixing of species.

The large mouth bass came from a dozen different ponds in the area that a friend caught for me. I saw every one of them and there is no doubt of what they where. The channel catfish came from my other, smaller pond, and I handled every single one of them. There is no doubt of what they where.

So far, green sunfish and yellow catfish have magically appeared in my pond.

I'm trying to feel the pain for you guys with ponds. I just can't. ;)

I want a pond so bad, but it's just not going to happen in my location.

Over time, other species have a way of appearing. I am told that birds and other critters will have fish eggs from other bodies of water hitch hike on their feet and legs and find a new home in your ponds. The same probably applies to boats, waders, etc. Fishermen have been known to dump their unused bait into the water, and who knows what it contains.

Heh... I had a guy come look at refurbishing my barn. He saw my pond and fell in love. Said "Would it be alright if I came out one evening and did a little fishing? I'll catch and release." I told him sure.

I asked him how the fishing went. He said, he was hitting the bottom with each cast, because the entire thing was almost completely silted in. You couldn't see it from afar, but up close, you could almost walk on water.

I know something is in there though. Some bigger turtles and a blue heron are there quite often.

i have a creek that runs beside my ponds when i drained one 3yrs ago it had garr and grinnel in it. When we had floods last spring and the creek over flowed and was running in the ponds i am afraid i have garr and grinnel in them again.

spotted catfish! no one would believe my 2 cousins and myself only 10yr olds or so. so we grabbed our nets and gear and headed down to were the spotted catfish was. a couple hours later we arrive back home. with a channel catfish, that went through the overflow, and ended up in a muddle puddle on one side of a culvert. and had missing skin from ride through the overflow pipe and bumps going through short run off area down to the culvert area. i want to say it weighed 7 to 8 lbs. we seen catfish before, caught them, skinned them, help cook them and ate them. but it just bewildered us seeing a spotted catfish, and of course could not clearly see what it was, till after we got it in a net and out of the water. we wanted catfish meat! **looks really hungry now**

This is VERY interesting. It will bee even more interesting if you catch more of them. To have all your stocked fish disappearing would indicate something is eating the hatchlings before they can mature.

I will take the fun of catching redfish over bass any day.
