The fuel filter on my L3200 is out in the wide open ready to be taken off by whatever the front tire might throw up at it. I don't guess I really payed much attention to it before I bought it but just happened to be looking at it the other day and WOW that sucker is out in plan open view. Looks like I might have to fab something up that fits around it while utilizing exsisting holes to mount it. I talked to a fella the other day who has a L3400 and he said his has already been knocked off once. What was Kubota thinking..

Agree. It's poorly placed on my b2710 as well. All I can think is that it's easy to get to when you need to replace it.

Having the filter below the tank in a place where the filter housing also has a direct way for the vent line to go back to top of tank so the system is almost totaly self bleeding. And I am thinking that the fuel system engineer was not talking to the designers of the hood and other sheet metal. Otherwise you would need a filter housing with a hand pump on it.

At least the kit I put on the RTV actually has a plate the guards the bowl because it is even with the bottom of the frame rails.

I broke mine off bushing hogging last summer. A small tree limb pushed up and snapped it off. And yes the fuel pours out. I had to jump off and stop up the fuel line with a stick. If you look on here you will find another member made a nice front guard for the B3030. I always think about it when I am way back in the woods doing food plots.

Well I bought my L3200 after the purchase of our 8 acres with the intent of using it to help with some of the brush clean up, etc. So far I've been more than pleased with it while cleaning close to 1 1/2 - 2 acres where our house will be but like you said, it is always on my mind. Makes me tread lightly which in-turn makes for a better job. I'm gonna do a search and see what that fella you was talking about came up with. Thanks

Broke mine off my 2710 a few years back while clearing a part of my woods. Was in a bunch of busted up saplings when it went. After the fuel drained I pull the tractor out of the way and piled up all the debtors I just cleared and burned it. Hate to see fuel go to waste. Next day went to dealer and got a new filter unit and was back up and running shortly thereafter. Have not don it again since

Its there so you drain the water out of it. Water kills the injection pump.

Are you saying the dealer had the filter unit in stock?

It's good your dealer got you up and running, but this must be a real problem if they stock an item that normally would not be replaced for the life of the tractor.

Unless a falla wanted to drill a couple holes in the frame, the L3200/3800 would have to mount a little different than on the B3030. That dang steering link looks like it could interfere possibly. I'm gonna pick some sheet metal up and start a cover of some type i guess.

UPDATE-------I went and took some measurements and drew a template up on paper and then traced onto some 12 gauge. I'm really happy with how it has turned out after welding and grinding it smooth. Just need to take it to work tomorrow and bead blast it and then on goes the orange. I'll try and get some pictures up soon also

You *might* have a few people copy the idea ;) :D Looking forward to the photos...

The filter really needs to be in a visible spot. Fuel problems cause lots of shop work for us, and most of them can be easily diagnosed just by looking at the filter. So if it needs to be visible and below the injectors, I'm not sure where else you would go... back a bit maybe..?

My older Kubotas had the filter back closer the the dash, same side and tucked in closer to the frame, but still visible and easy to get to. This new L3800 has the filter in a somewhat vulnerable place. I am keeping an eye on it, when in heavy brush and will likely fab some type of guard for it.

Here is my proto of the fuel filter guard. The diminsions I give here are on the fuel filter side of the tractor facing it. Right being the front side of the tractor and left being towards the rear. The overall diminsion is 5 3/4" deep x 2 3/4" wide x 6 1/4" tall .

The right side piece is 5 3/4" deep x 6 1/4" tall. The notch for the steering shaft is 1 1/2" and 2 1/2" up front the bottom and 2 1/4" deep from the back side(closest to the tractor) You will cut that 1" x 2 1/4" piece out to fit around the steering shaft.

The left side is going to be 5 3/4" deep x 6 1/4" tall. There is a notch in the top back corner that allows it to fit under an engine piece. It is 3 1/2" measured from the back side out and 1 3/4" measured from the top side down. Remove the corner piece. The notch for the steering shaft is 2 1/8" and 3 1/8" up from the bottom and like the right side it is 2 1/4" deep from the back side out.

The back piece is overall 4 1/8" x 2 1/2" tall. With that piece cut and in front of you measure from the right to the left 1 1/2" and from the bottom to the top 1 1/2" and remove that bottom corner. The angle along the top follows the rise from the lower portion of the steering shaft notch on the right side to the lower portion of the steering shaft on the left side. For the hole that the bolt that holds the steering shaft assembly in place goes through, those measurements are as follows. With the back piece in front of you, 5/8" right to left and 1/2" down from the top. That is the center point and that hole needs to be 1/2".

If anyone wants to modify or add to this any, feel free. This is simply what I have come up with and did actually bolt it on so it does work. I did not get a picture of it but I also welded a 4" long piece on the bottom to keep anything from coming up through the bottom. Thats simple to figure out though. I still need to bead blast it tomorrow and then on goes the paint. Hope this saves some people some trouble down the road. Feel free to ask any questions if need be also.
