what valve for trip bucket conversion

Hi. New member here. I have an AC WD with a New Idea loader with trip-bucket. I would like to add a Hyd. cyl. to the bucket to get up/down control. I have a couple of double-acting cylinders and a control valve that wouldwork if I used both cylinders as single acting cylinders, but I would prefer to use only one double acting cylinder (less mounting work). I'm not well-versed in hydraulic language.....what kind if control valve do I need control one double-acting cylinder. (I plan to add an auxillary pump to supply the bucket control)

You will need a valve that is meant for open center hydraulics (allows flow to pass unrestricted in the center condition). Both cylinder ports will be blocked in the center condition. Some manufacturers call these double acting cylinder spools. You should also have a relief valve in this directional valve to protect the auxiliary pump.

Welcome to TBN. The type of valve will be called a directional control valve. The size of the valve will have to be rated at least as high as the output gallons per hour and PSI of your hydraulic pump. Go to the Home page of this forum and click on the advertiser logo Surplus Center, lots of information there. I'm assuming you're looking for a valve with a handle you can mount somewhere on your WD. You'll also have to add a reservoir. Maybe you can get enough info from Surplus Center.

I'm no hydraulic mech but there are plenty here that are.
