I looked at a MF35 today, everything looked good but the multipower lever was stuck in down position, tractor ran good but no engine braking going down hill. The guy said it would work but took alot of effort to pull the lever up into high. Is this a indication the multipower is going bad? What usually happens when multipower goes out, is it the Hi or the Lo not working or hard to shift?

My 1964 MF135 diesel had MultiPower that was stuck in Low range. MP is a hydraulic system and leaks and a clogged filter can prevent shifting from Low to High and back. You loose half of your tranny gears when MP is stuck in Low, but the tractor is useable in Low. You have to remove the heavy top cover on the transmission case to fix that problem.

Good luck.

Usually too expensive for most folks to consider repairing, unless, you can do it yourself. Ken Sweet

most of the time the clutches in the multipower start slipping in the high side can get bad enough tractor will downshift to low on its own we overhauled multi power on an 1105 massey we had some years back it was not too bad a job. the multipower lever was never hard to move or got stuck on that tractor could be that something is binding in the linkage of froze up from rust or something.

G'day sound to me like something is binding in the linkage take it for another drive and see if you can get it into high if you can and it doesn't want to slip then it is just a linkage prob
