Any upper cylinder lube should work to keep the the valve stems and valve guides from seizing up.
My best guess 2 cycle oil would be the cheapest to add to the gas.

Thanks i just bought it has 640 hours the old guy i bought it from told me he used recreational gas never heard of it it's a 1968 one owner. Would you have any idea how much to five gallons gas.

Good find...I have a '67 that when I found it it had less than 600 hours on it...it now has over 900...be prepared to replace some things, like a water pump and have your generator checked out...I use 15-40 diesel oil...also be prepared to replace your rear tires...sooner of later....good luck! BobG in Va

Youper....you may have misunderstood me...I use 15-40 diesel oil in the CRANKCASE... I don't add oil to the gasoline...I'm not sure what recreational gas is either...I've put a little residual chainsaw gas (40 to 1 mix) to a tractor fuel tank once in a while when I mix up a new batch for the saws, but I don't add any, any other time...its an overhead valve engine...plenty of oil gets up there by itself...If you haven't checked it also check out the anti-freeze in the radiator..you may want to replace it...since you don't know if the other guy ever did...

Guys, I do not know about recreational gas, but I buy alcohol free gas at Farmers Supply whenever I can. If you are near my age you will recall using #2 Permatex as gasket sealer, or the more liquid aviation form-a-gasket version. You will recall that it stood up to fuel and oil, but you got it off your hands by using alcohol. In addition to dissolving some gasket sealers, alcohol attacks some seal materials in older engines. At my saw shop, they say 95% of the engine problems they see on chainsaws are due to modern fuel. So with my mowers, saws, generators, brushcutters, etc. I want alcohol free fuel. That definitely goes for my 1959 MF 204.

I really cannot comment about the absence of tetraethyl lead, but we are talking about low compression, low rpm tractor engines. And we are using much better engine oil than was available 50 or 60 years ago. It would be worth researching.
