Hey everyone. I've ended up with a large farm in North GA. Its a long story. The property is 550 acres and about 200 is cleared for pasture (currently weeds). I've got a lot of cutting to get the place back in shape.
I've found a T7074 Montana Tractor that I am looking at buying. It has a 70HP/60HP PTO Deere engine.
Questions:
1. What type of mower do I need: Flail, Rotary?
2. What is the max size this tractor could handle: 12' or 15' Bat Wing
Thanks,
james
Your inquiry will recieve a lot of comments in general,
The issue is your actual budget and your actual
useable time.
You may be better off hiring it done at per
acre cost initally and eventually purchasing a fine cut
flailmower like a JD25A or a Vrismo flail mower
to keep the invasives like Kudzu, poison Oak, Sumac
and Ivy under control.
There are a lot of good used flail mowers and flail
shredders in the market that would do all this and more.
Personally if it were me in your situation and as
the ground has been cleared for pasture I would
purchase a new or used 10-15 foot Alloway
or Mathews flail shredder with the wide scoop knives
as you have a lot of ground to cover obviously and a
flail shredder will handle all your needs.
The flail crop shredder will operate at a much higher
revolution per minute and it will shred the grass and
weeds much finer than a rotary cutter with the wide
flail scoop knives which are used for crop shredders.
A flail crop shredder will have a total cutting edge
length than a rotary cutter of any size as the entire
width of the flail type crop shredder rotor is used to
cut the brush/crop residue in front of it.
A Vrismo brand orchard and vineyard shredder is smaller
in width but just as durable and will shred the material
with no trouble.
