What Triggers Your Buy/Build Decision?

GE222 Has it right..

I built a grapple from my Kubota because to buy one would be more that the total $1260.00 I spent. In addition - I will buy at auction only WOODS / RHINO products - mostly because they don't break and when the price is low the value is high if you do the research and not buy junk or get auction fever.

I bought a NEW WOODS HB84 Box Blade - $600.00 at a March auction from a forclosure at a dealership.

Price is what makes me build most of the time. Availability comes into play on the odd stuff like implement stands where nobody makes em.
Satisfaction that you built a one of a kind and it works is just plain cool

When I have more time on my hands than money in my pocket!!! (which is usually always)

My next project is an outside wood stove. I can build it for a third of what I can buy it for.

I build a lot of stuff because it fits my needs better. I do often find that I can buy something cheaper, but if I compared to stuff of comparable build quality and features, I am able to justify it.

Occasionally, it really is less expensive to build something. I don't tend to count my time. If I did, I would probably be a long ways ahead to just buy it.

Also, I have, as a buddy of mines says, tools to fix/build tools. May as well use them. And I like building stuff.

There are times when I want something now, though, and will just buy it.
