What transmission/transaxle is in a 265?

I just got a nice low hour 265 garden tractor and was looking for some info on the hydro transmission/transaxle. It's stamped tuff-torq (by Kawasaki) on the rear axle, but according to the service manual it should have been a Sundstrand hydro unit. I didn't think on tractors this small they used a seperate hydro pump/axle, but I haven't looked that closely at it.

Any info would be great, I'm hoping this isn't one of the 'bad' tuff-torq transmissions that is regularly discussed on here. I would like to use the tractor for some light garden work, but if the transmission isn't up to it I will stick to just mowing.

I realize these tractors are 20yrs old and weren't very popluar, but surely someone knows about these transmissions?

The Tuff Torq web site has lots of technical info. Have you used the number on your transaxle and looked there?

I can't seem to find any # or info on the transaxle.

A forum with 90,000 members and no one knows about these?

Did you check the Tuff torq site under service? I'm seeing pictures of the different transaxels which link to more information about each.

You probably have to take the seat and the pan and the gas tank off to see the serial number. It is not hard at all if you take your time.

I am NOT familiar with the 265, but TractorData.com lists it has having a "Sundstrand BDU-21" Hydrostatic Transmission.

I HAVE A 1990 JD-265 IN RUNNING CONDITION. TRANSMISSION IS FINE AND WORKS WELL. IT NEEDS A STATOR, MUFFLER & KNOW A FLYWHEEL. I ALSO HAVE A FRONT BLADE & MOWING DECK FOR IT. IF YOU ARE IN THE RHODE ISLAND AREA AND OUR INTERESTED, ITS FREE. I JUST WANT RID OF IT. CONTACT ME AT EJERVIS@EBMAIL.GDEB.COM
