Hi. I am preparing to purchase a Kubota 3010 and I do not know what tires to purchase. I have 10 acres of land and need to mow all of it. About 3 acres will be nice grass and the rest is field. But I also have creeks and some rough areas. The land has some grade to it and in some spots I guess it is somewhat steep. Will turf tires work in a situation like this? I have a friend who has a JD 955 and says he slides all over w/ turf tires. I will have 4wd so that will help. Do Ag tires raelly chew up the yard? If you only have one set, which should you get? Thanks for the advice.

Cookti, you've asked the second most opinionated question on the board (right behind what color tractor to buy). Check out this thread initiated by one of our wiser members: Ag Elimination Rule

If you can't find the answer in there it probably doesn't exist /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

After reading MANY an opinionated post on this topic, each poster claiming to be right, /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gifthe only way to be sure what is right for YOU is to try each option.

Go to your dealer, find a slope, and back up that slope in two tractors -- one with ags and the other with either R4s or turfs. Spray some water on the slope and try again. Check for slippage and turf damage.

I've used turfs in the past and hated them. Use ags now and never get stuck...and rarely cause significant damage to the turf. Others will give conflicting testimonials, hence the suggestion to try for yourself. For an idea of what my property looks like, check my Web site.

cookti, I think Rob & Pete have given you about as good an answer as there is./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif I have about the same size yard and pasture, a B2710 with Ag tires (thought for awhile that I should have gotten R4s, but am now glad I stayed with the R1s). My "yard" is kind of rough anyway, but it's also pretty solid, so mowing with R1s isn't a problem for me, but I can see how it would be for some.

I had the same dilema when I purchased my L3010HST. I finally decided on the R4's, and for me, they've worked out great. That said, I support the other fellows' recomendation that you try both for yourself.

Good Luck

I just recently purchased a B7500 with the Bar/turf tire option. They seem to be a good compromise between the Turf tire and Ag tire.

Cookti,
Like others have said, the "Ag Elimination Rule" post will help you out alot-it helped me. I even gave a copy to my dealer because he was pushing the R4's so much he would have given them to me at the same price as Ag's. After putting 30 hours on the Ag's-in the dirt, mud, and sand, while loading, tilling, broadcasting, and pushing over trees, I wouldn't have wanted anything else. It was kind of a "no-brainer" for me, especially after reading all the information on this site. That being said though, I will be doing absolutely no mowing with my L4610, and 95% of my hours will be on dirt, sand, snow, or gravel. Sounds like with the mowing you have to do, you might have a case for something other than an Ag's. Your best bet is to have the dealer let you try the different tires on grass and see what is best for your situation-you might not want to automatically eliminate or choose one without trying.

Good Luck!!
