I have been doing a lot of searching here, but decided I would post this and get some experts opinions.

I purchased 5.5 acres recently. About 1-1.5 is grass that I need to mow regularly. About 2-2.5 acres acres wooded/tree'd and the rest is more field like. This has a semi-gradual grade to it. I plan on cutting that maybe 1-2 times a year. I will also need to pull a box blade for the driveway and will have a good size garden. Eventually, we'll build on this too. There are rocks around it too.

Which would be better suited for this, a B or BX series. This will be my first tractor too. I like what I read about the B, but the MMM and clearance has me a little concerned given the topography. I figure I'd (eventually) run a bush hog, finishing mower, box blade and FEL. I'd like to stay below 8K too. Any advice is appreciated.

The tasks determine the tractor choice. Your task are typical of a land owner with that acreage. The BX can now be had with a 26 hp rating, but since you mentioned your budget, you'll be looking at used, of course. It is highly unlikely that 8 K will get you a newer BX in the 60 series nor a B in the 20 series. These are too new to meet your budget. That's fine.

Thus, you will be looking at machines 6-10 years old, in my estimation. In that era, I'd go B series hands down, but that's me. There are a goodly number of them with insanely low hours, kept by little old grandpa's in their garage and waxed twice a year.:D

Seriously, your budget is possible. There are some great buys out there, but you'll have to hunt for the needles in the haystack to find the perfect one.

Spend some time on TractorHouse and this will give an idea what your budget can buy. Be advised. Those are LIST prices and no one should pay the asking price. Mostly, these are dealers, but there are also a few private party listings as well.

A BX 1860 with a rear mounted 4-5 foot flail mower will be all you need to mow grass and brush with one mower.

a front end loader after the purchase would be harder to find

a used unit may be hard to find but another option is-

The smallest BCS two wheel tractor (gas) with a flail mower and rototiller and or rotary plow for the garden will stay within your budget or a bit above but without a box blade.

You can buy a sulky to ride behind it as well if you want to do that
It takes a lot to put in driveway of any kind as normally a wide ditch is excavated and a stone base is dumped into the shallow trench and leveled.

An example is the 2 wheel gravely as it was a work horse for many years and it mowed, plowed with a tiller or rotary plow, graded with a blade or had a snow blower as the back bone for many familys in the burbs.

The BCS has world wide reputation like the Grillo, lombardini, ferrari and other 2 wheel tractor makers.

The attachments for the BCS will be easy to obtain after the model year with no issues and they have vicious snow blower attachments too-designed for the alpine snow belt even with the smallest BCS snow eater.
