I will be cutting between 10 and 15 acres of our pasture and have considered doing some bush hogging on the side for other people in our area. I am thinking a 7' medium duty cutter will work well. What are your thoughts?

To "cut" mowing time down, I'd be looking at an 8 foot multi spindle or 10 foot single batwing If I had 55HP.

It would easily pull a 8 footer.
8' screams right along and scalps less than a 7'
however it's a ton more money than a 7 footer too.
a 10 footer might be pushing it.

I've seen plenty of ford/ NH 5610 /II / S mow with 10' mowers.. a double spindle 10' might make it unless he's doing land clearing with it..

Your horsepower will easily handle 7' in all situations.
Are you looking for coverage or utility? A 7' mounted rig is the best for utility work but you could handle up to 15' pull type depending upon the amount of growth and ground speed.
If you don't know, split the difference on an 8' mounted unit and make the most of all situations. Or, buy two different mowers.

Sounds like a 7'.. maybee 8' limit.. unless you invested in a v-10' cutter.

i would suggest against a 3pt unless you have weight in the front or something. I have a DX55 and use a 6' Mohawk that is a little over 1000 lbs. Without the loader on it, you can almost get the front wheels off the ground if you arent easy on the clutch in some situations. With the bucket, its obviously no problem.

I guess they aren't putting metal in these new fangled tractors anymore.. on most 'old' tractors.. 6' mower means 30ish hp and you are good.. lift and all... oh well.. times have changed..

My neighbor picked up his round bails... estimated between 800-1000 lb on his hold narrow front end something something.... he had 400lbs of weight chained to the front and you could still see the front end get light when he picked up the bails....
